Hi,

i had recently gone till Dhakuri and Chiltha top and chiltha mai temple, right at the top of the mountain near dhakuri pass during january. it snowed during that time. here is the link:

http://almoraboy.blogspot.com/2008/0...i-pindari.html

If you want to carry the minimum stuff, then just carry some woolens, at least 5 pairs of inner wear and socks, good shoes, a pair of slippers/flip-flops, raincoats. some snacks like dry fruits, etc will be helpful - lots of them in fact.

the guides/porters can arrange for the other stuff. just contact this guy vinod kalakoti. he was my guide during the trek. he lives near bageshwar and is a 33.33% shareholder is a small trekkign company in bageshwar.

Contact details here: http://almoraboy.blogspot.com/2006/0...formation.html

he has done the basic and i guess the advanced course also from NIM. so he can arrange for torches, rucksacks, sleeping bags and tents (if needed). you should carry a tent for emergency - if all the guest houses along the route are blocked. he keeps them all in his bageshwar office.

do visit chiltha mai temple near dhakuri. stunningly beautiful place and the best views are from there.

october should be very clear.

when is diwali this year? there is usually a day or two of bad weather in the hilsl around diwali - no guarantee, but if you are lucky, it MIGHT just snow. still, 95% you can expect clear weather.

1.5 years back i had gone to the khalia top trek in beginning october (gandhi jayanti holidays). this is very close to where you are planning to go. so the link below should give you some idea of the weather and the views.

http://almoraboy.blogspot.com/2006/1...kend-trek.html

this has around 700+ pics and will give you an excellent idea of the views of the mountains (small, medium, big, gigantic) in night, dawn, afternoon, dusk, etc

just one more thing...we guyz are coming from Kolkata and as we planned, we have to manage our transportation by Flight and Dehradun is the only place which has direct flight service from Kolkata.

and as far as I have seen, that Bageshwar is approx 400km+ distance from Dehradun. So is it possible to reach Bageshwar on that day?

otherwise please let me know what will be the most convenient way to reach over there from Kolkata in shortest time.

Thanks - Arin

oh no, dehradun will be pretty far off.

don't you get trains from kolkatta to kathgodam? that would be the better option. if there is not a direct train i think you can try -> kolkatta - lucknow and then lucknow-kathgodam (nainital express)

u can try to reach quickly from kolkatta to lucknow by plane. then take the night train from lucknow to kathgodam and be in kathgodam early morning. then straight leave for bageshwar and be there by lunch time.
