Thumbs up Trekking Northern India, Aug/Sept 2005

Hello to all India Mike watchers,

Need some help please. I am currently planning a touring trip to India and would like to include 5 day trip out of Manali and a 7 or 8 day trip out of Joshimath or nearby. We would also like to hear about good option out of Darjeeling. We will have three adults and two teenagers in our group.

We are looking for a great trekking experience in a lesser known, less crowded area. We are also wondering about place to avoid for any reason i.e political strife, terrorism etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Kananda

Exclamation Trekking....

MANALI.... try the Parvati Valley trek upto Tunda Bhuj Thach. One of the most beautiful valleys ever.

JOSHIMATH...... The Kuari Pass Trek. Or the Roop kund Trek

Good option out of Darjeeling is Singali La Trek to Phalut.... but this is a strife torn area due to Nepal maoist movement.

Just read the Trekking and Mountaineering section here. All your answers are available.

Thank you, Avid !
I will keep a eye on this area of the forum. I can relate positively to the location of your head !
I was considering doing part of the Nanda Devi Outer Sanctuary trek.....Lata to Dronagiri to Jumma....how does this compare to Kuari Pass or Roop Kund ?

Cheers.

Tetuka pass -Manali Pass

If you guys are tough trekkers, you can do circuit trek from Manali to Manali at the following route Manali- Solang Nala - Dhundi Thach - Beas Kund- Tetuka Pass - Kuari Got - Manali Pass - Manali.

On Joshimath side, you can trek at the outer Nanda Devi sanctuary, starting from Malari and trekking to Kalla khal - Kanari Khal- Dunagiri - Nandi Kund back to Roadhead at Suraithota.

Permissions can be obtained from the forest deptt in Joshimath.

don't go to sandakphu -phalut-singali la trek in aug sept. It will be cloudy and u will miss the spectacular panorama. see this thresd of mine....
Destination Sandakphu-Falut

if u want to go for trekking around darjeeling better go to gorke-hille-barse. check the link....

http://www.bhraman.com/this_month/article2.html

and if u have enough time end energy u can give a try to sandakphu and then move on towards BARSE, there is trek route.....barse is a rhododendron sanctuary and in full bloom in july-sept.

Njoy, happy tour in India

Thanks for your input, Babu. I assume that views and weather in Darjeeling will be end of monsoon, cloudy and maybe a little rainy still? We will probably still go to Darjeeling and have a look around the area. Looks like a great place!

ya offcourse...come to darjeeling.... it has a tradition and colonial feel that is incomparable (except Simla). But if u r planning to stay here in West Bengal hills for 1-2 weeks....plan for the optimum.....

consider Hille-Barse rhododendron sanctuary ...see the link i have given u earlier...
here is the link to an article in a popular travel magazine, BHRAMAN, published monthly from kolkata....
http://www.bhraman.com/this_month/article2.html

also consider another place near darjeeling, lava lollegaon and rishap. See the thread....Destination Lava-Lollegaon-Rishap

if u r obsessed of remote and obscure forests, unknown paths....arunachal would be a nice place to be.... but just consider the monsoon....it rains much more in arunachal.

and hey TravellersCompanion...can u start one thread "trekking in arunachal" in the trekking and mountaineering forum..!!! Plz

I agree with AVID's post.
JYOTI: Tentu seems to be tough for some. But no doubt it is one of the scenic trail.
