what info do u require?? there will be snow during Dec @ phalut for sure...
remember to carry proper thermals as the weather would be cold with the wind chill factor adding to it....
so go n enjoy...

Thank you Ac100 for your information. We are on our schedule. We have everything like tent, slipping bag, snow jacket, snow boot, gloves etc. Just we need a guide from Manebhanjan.
Hi Saikat,
I will talk to my friends about your proposal. If they agree then no problem.

hi mamun...Snowfall depends on the GOD. No one can predict that. But due to Global warming its difficult to have snow during that period. But please do not pray for snowfall during our journey........we will loss the natural landscape of himalay due to poor weather. let it be happen earlier.
keep in touch
bye

I also agree with you. First finished our treking then go far for snow after a photo time.
Hi,
I am Shuvadeep, a final yr B.com (hons) student. I read some of your posts in indiamike.com about sandakphu which were really useful. In the 2nd week of October I will be traveling there in order to prepare my project on the socio-economic life of the native people of the Singalila Mountains. My itinerary is
13th oct: siliguri ghoom manebhanjan - chetry
14th oct: chetry - gauribas
15th oct: gauribas - sandakphu
16th oct: sandakphu gaurdum / srikhola
17th oct: gaurdum / srikhola rimbik
18th oct: rimbik ghoom - siliguri
I will be traveling alone so do I have to take any permission from any authority? And I have a limited budget of Rs 5k, so is it a criterion to take a guide and a porter because I dont think I can afford them. I have detailed maps so directions will not be a problem. Can you also advise me any place in chetry, gauribas and gaurdum where I can stay at night?
It will be very helpful if you pass me the required information which will help me during my tour and also give me some more tips by which I can cover the whole trip within 5day coz it will save both my time and money.

Hi Subhadeep,I can suggest you some modification of itinerary to optimize your cost and time. But in order to do that I need to know you purpose of this travel. My suggestions will only make sense if you just want a quick visit to Sandakphu. But (I'm quoting you) "project on the socio-economic life of the native people of the Singalila Mountains" won't be done much. I don't think you need go higher mountains in order to study socio-economic lives. The last village on the way to sandakphu is Meghma/Gairibas/Gurdum (on different routes), and your journey should end there.
You don't have to take a guide if you plan to go through Rimbik. But you really not cut down in days if you really want to meet (possibly interview) people. I know a person in Rimbik who can help you in meeting different people around but that won't be a trek as we call it.

12 Dec: Manebhajang -> Tonglu/Tumbling

15 Dec: Sandakphu -> Phalut
16 Dec: Phalut -> Gorkhey

17th may be a bit hectic long route. You may consider only Sandakphu and return by Gurdum.

Well there many things to say about Sandakphu .The beauty of the place cant be put into words.The sunrise and sunset ,the flora and fauna is really diverse.There are dense forest.The hotels there are mainly colourful cottages with a green lawn and hen followed by chicks running around .The animals and birds are really tame . The only thing that one has to be careful about while treking are ferocious black leopards wandering everywhere. But the place is really worth visiting . we went with a very good guide . His name is Umesh Mote .

"ferocious black leopards wandering everywhere"...
I must ask what were you smoking buddy?
black leopards are not even species of Indian origin... and love the part 'wandering everywhere'...
Had a good laugh though! thanks...
