trekking partners in zanskar we are a married couple (one german one american)in our 30's travelling in india this summer. we are organising the trans zanskar trek 21 days this july august and are looking for like minded adventurous souls who would like to join. think it would be more enjoyable to be in a small group 4-6 rather than ourselves and more economical too. if you are interested write back for more info.

Hi Nicola, I'll be in the area around that time (will have just arrived in India, solo) and would love to meet up with the two of you to hike to Lamayura. My guess is that I won't be able to start any earlier than mid to late July. If you're still interested, please email me at davidp80@yahoo.com and we can discuss the details further. I hope to hear from you! -Dave ![]()

lamayuru is a trekking highway why dont you guys do the kibber korzok trek ....its fantastic...you will get to see loads of wild life (kyangs , tibetian wolves...lots of bird life), there is very good nomadic life that you will get to see also you can camp on two big lakes (tso kar and tsomoriri) also you will not bump into many trekkers and get a good feel of ladakh and the wilderness.... another grt zanskar trek will be over the kangla pass...it is much better that doing darcha lamayuru... cheer k

Hi, You must complete the trek from Darcha to lamayuru before the road gets constructed. While on the trek be careful of your belongings and equipment and watchout for local kids, specially near Darcha (place best avoided). For pics of the trail have a look at himalayancamping.com's photo galary. All the best.

More info on Kibber korzok? kaushaldesai, Could you tell me a bit more about this trek. Is hiring a guide a relatively straightforward affair? Anticipated time to complete the trek? Season? It definitely sounds intriguing.... Thanks so much, -Dave ![]()

hi- okay. maybe the darcha lamayuru trek has a few things against it. we will be in north india for at least 6 weeks so can be flexible to other options...anyone have any suggestions for an alternative trek in ladakh or himachal?? what about Spiti? something for about 3 weeks with good varied terrain and a chance to get up close to a few big peaks, high passes etc. thanks.

There are very many treks. I personally prefer greenery, so I chose this trek in 2005 where we started in the Kulu Parvati Valley, crossed over the Pin Parvati Pass to the desertscape of Spiti and crossed over one of the MOST beautiful valleys in the Indian Himalaya, the Bhaba Valley, over the Pin Bhaba Pass. In 16 days. However, some people go Ladakh for the precise reason that it is a dry desert .... they say "we don't get to see this in our Country" If you tell me your broad preferences [nature wise] its possible to suggest some routes for your trek...

thanks for the info. all treks sound good. yes, barren "moonscape" and buddhist culture is what we are after. I have done the everest trek in nepal (off season) and absolutely love'd it. But this time would like to do a different type of trek and scenery so thats why I was thinking Zanskar. However 3 weeks of dessert paths could be a bit much. Pin Parbati looks interesting and with varied terrain. Could you suggest some others?? also what about the other treks suggested like kibber korzok trek and kangla pass? couldn't find too much info about these routes. thanks

| 21st Century Freak | Yes Zanskar wud be a deserted but no doubt wonderfully mesmerizing! How about Nubra Valley?! Cannot help on the the route but I saw a lot of operators having that in the list in Leh. And yes...if one is alone and wants to do some trekking he/she can simply approach some reliable trek company in Leh city and tell ur interest. They probably will accommodate you in one of the groups that was waiting for want of ppl to meet the numbers. You will see a lot of such "Vacancies" on the corner 'bulletin boards' in Leh. Had come across this site when looking for something similar. Guess some of u may have already checked it.

hi david you will find the detalied trek plan for kibber - rumtse on my site: http://www.above14000ft.com/treks/kibber-rumtse.html You will need a good guide, cook and horses to carry your camping gear and rations. It isnt a straight forward trek as in you cannot arrive at the road head and hire horses or guides there ....you will have to plan it in advance. I agree with avid trekker Pin Pass is a very good option and you can combine it with Bhawa pass and you have a grt 17-18 day trek .... the detailed plan for both the treks are here on my site: http://www.above14000ft.com/treks/pinparvatipass.html http://www.above14000ft.com/treks/bhawapass.html Anyways let me know if the info helped you. incase you want help in planning the trek feel free to give me a buzz.. cheers kaushal

| Hello Nicola , Your upcoming Zanskar adventure sounds interesting . I completed this traverse on the conventional Darcha - Shingo La- Padam - Lamayuru route over the crescendo of passes 2 years ago ...was fun except the dust storms ... Wondering if you and your group is ready to take Baralacha Pass - Sarchu - Phirtse La route to Padam and then back on the Lamayuru Route ... this way we see the less chosen route to Lamayuru .... write back on the forum if you find this idea appealing ... best wishes and good luck ...hope to hear from you ...Last edited by himalayan_monk; Mar 20th, 2007 at 23:48.. | thanks for the info 'trekking expert'. at the moment however we are leaning to doing the piv parbati pass. after looking into it further think this route will provide more variation in scenery and has options for further exploration on either side of it which could be fun. might try and combine Naggar to Malana and then towards Pulga via Rashol Pass. Any thoughts on this route? Would it be quite wet in mid July? |

Oh, it is a very long climb from Naggar to Chandrakani pass, otherwise it is a good idea. And yes, the area is also hit by monsoon - I had to quit Pin Parbati trek due to heavy raining and landslides in July. About Phirtse la route - not much canyons but the highest water for river crossing so far - would not make it without a strong horse.
