First let us know what kind of trek you looking for : easy -coastal forts/not much climbing required ,medium trek - long distance, involving some climbing or Hard-involving some rock climbing & long walks.
This site might prove useful to you : http://www.trekshitiz.com/ from top menu select "Forts -> Forts in English" plenty of information is there . If you ask for my favorite I'll vouch for "Harishchandragad" (medium grade trek)& it fits in 3 day duration mentioned by you perfectly ! ![]() |

check out this company called Wild Escapes... you can google it... they are based in mumbai and organize cool offbeat adventures... i had spoken to them regarding ladakh... but, i couldn't go as had some personal commitments... however, they were great to talk to and seemed like they were knowledgeable and are well-travelled.

I have been trying to organise a trekking trip for myself in Maharashtra for a few nights, but to no avail. I have e-mailed half a dozen trekking companies but they have not even acknowledged my e-mails. Is business so good that they don't want any new ones ??
I am perplexed. |

A three day hard trek with lots of rock climbing brings to mind three hill forts located near Igatpuri called Alang, Kulang and Mandangad. The last mentioned has some rock climbing up a face with considerable exposure. There are caves and water on Alang and Kulang. However I would not advise you to do this trek alone and without proper guidance and equipment.

Feb would be dry if it is scorching it may make the treks even more uncomfortable.
You will find the lastest trekking schedules of all the trekking clubs here .The clubs usually put out their schedule a week before the trek.Like praks said trekking alone is not advisable.

Hi Praks & Navinkurian,
Thanks for the information. I have been trying to contact people who organise these trips profesionally. As I am travelling with my wife, I will not be carrying any rock climbing equipment except the most basic that is harness, shoes and chalk bag. I am an experienced climber and trekker but would like to trek with a local experienced trekker and climber and have no problems at all for paying for the serivce. Dom |

Hi Dom
Although trekking has developed very extensively in the Sahyadri, rock-climbing has not, due to various reasons. In general, climbers restrict themselves to either rock-climbing or trekking. Very rarely are the two combined although reaching the base of the rockface or pinnacle can be a trek in itself. Most forts/hills in the Sahyadri have a straightforward trekking route as well as an optional rock-climbing route. Practically all groups opt for the trekking route with some minor rock-climbing on the way because not all the group members are proficient at rock-climbing. So you will have no difficulty in finding a group to trek with but will need to look harder for a rock-climbing group. |

Hi Praks,
Trekking will do for me in those circumstances just want to get out with nature, as I have been working like a dog and have not been outdoors for months. Just 55 days more for my trip. Dom |

You can do some good bouldering in the Borivili National Park in suburban Mumbai. So do bring your harness, rockboots and chalk bag when you come.
