this is IDRIS's address: 6/14 Nilmoni Haldar Lane, (top floor), Kolkata 13
phone: 2245 5154. it's near Jyoti theatre.

yea they used to sell their own tents. But I don't know whether they till do it.

i have never used their tents but all the other items from rucksacks to jackets are excellent.

I purposely left Idris out of the list I provided earlier because they trade only and do not hire out equipment.
Besides, Idris may be good for some but, they are not as scientific in their designs as the others. Especially, the rucksacks they make manifest balance problems on a long and hard trek.
However, they are reasonably good/cheaper on their own.
The others try to incorporate styling and designs often from western brands such as Lowe Alpine, North Face, etc. I know this because some of them are known to me personally.

I agree completely....better try Alpine or Ubac for hiring and puchasing equipments.....Idris has gone outdated.

the desig may be little outdated but the materials used by them is better than the rest....but on the other hand the liling used by idris is too heavy and it can be a problem incase the sack gets wet.....on the other hand the design of the sacks of UBAC Alpine or Cliffline are good but the materials are not up to the mark....

crimson,
hiring charges should be around :
4/2 man tents - INR 35/25 per day
sleeping bag - INR 15/10/6 per day (depending on temp.grade)
your calcutta friend will have to hire for you. s/he must provide a photo and some valid ID as well.

BTW (cliffhanger): where does Idris get his materials from ??? as far as i know (and i don't think i'm off the mark) the lining and stuff come from the same Chandni market area. and as for the materials, they all come from across the very porous West Bengal-Bangladesh border. all of them are imported!

@Babuchand and Avid

Babu, Avid.

can you let me know the style / model of the backpack you purchased from Avi. Im in Mumbai and the same place to Avi just 4 minutes walking distance. If Im correct they import Boll brands of sacks from Czechoslovakia and these are highly priced. I saw a 65 lt sack at Rs. 7,500 and withdrew from buying it. They also manufacture their own make but not ptetty good in suspension and back padding.
Would appreciate the one to know which you purchased..
