Trekking Dodital to Yamunotri
Trekking Dodital to Yamunotri
Help me in chalking out the trekking program. I have only 7 days to complete this trek from Delhi to Delhi. Will this trek is possible in the month of June'12.
It can be done in 7 days from Delhi to Delhi. Better to take a guide from starting point of trek (name forgotten) upto Hamunamchatti via Dodital.

Thanks for reply. Till now I am alone for this trek. I have worked out some plan getting information from net. It is Kalyani, the starting point. Is it necessary to hire a guide? will not a porter do this job? Dodital to Seema via Darwa Top is the ticklish path. Whether any guide is required on this trek? Seema to Hanumanchatti is 18 km. I have chalked out an itinerary as under:16.06.12 (1st Day): Start from Delhi in the night to Haridwar by bus.
17.06.12 (2nd Day): From Haridwar to Kalyani via Uttarkashi. Stay at Kalyani
18.06.12 (3rd Day: Trek from Kalyani to Dodital via Agoda & Manjhi (17 km). Stay at Dodital.
19.06.12 (4th Day): Trek from Seema to Hanumanchatti (18 km). Stay at Hanumanchatti.
20.06.12 (5th Day): Trek from Hanumanchatti to Yamunotri (14 km). Stay at Yamunotri.
21.06.12 (6th Day): Trek from Yamunotri to Hanumanchatti Start early and take bus to reach any of the station in between on the route to Rishikesh.
22.06.12 (7th Day): Take early morning bus for Rishikesh and then to Delhi
If anybody is interested to join me, please contact me.

Up to Dodital there is no problem for food & shelter, but from Dodital to Seema and Hanumanchatti what is the position of availability of food and shelter? I have also made arrangements for sleeping bag, rucksake, mattress etc. Whether any other thing is required? If anybody knows the name, address, contact number of any porter/ guide (who can also work as porter), please inform. I am starting straight away from Delhi so any acclimatization is required for this trek? Rajan,
We attempted a trek from Barsu to Hanuman Chatti ( via Dayara Bugyal & Dodital) first week of May. Unfortunately, we could not complete the Darwa Top - Hanuman Chatti leg of the trek as the Darwa Top - Seema portion was hazardous because of heavy snow cover. That said, I expect that the snow would have completely melted by the time you get there in June and you should not have a problem. My trek report appears here on another thread and may be of some use to you. Dodi Tal - Dayara Bugyal in end April - looking for travel partners
More regarding some of your specific queries:
1. A guide is definitely required for Dodital - Hanuman Chatti trek.
2. There are at least two routes from the pass down to Hanuman Chatti. One stays just below the Darwa Top ridge and leads to Seema. The other descends more quickly from the pass and does not go through Seema. Guides tend to select the latter route if there is too much snow on the former. Not everyone knows both routes. You need to make sure your guide has done this trek several times.
3. If you go through a travel company in Uttarkashi, they will insist that you take a guide and porter(s). You will have to try your luck at Uttarkashi and ask around for a guide/porter. Guides and porters earn by the day. The standard trek routes have been divided into stages that can be covered in a day by common agreement in the community of guides and porters. If you want to set your own pace, you will have to make a lump sum contract with a guide/porter that will protect his interest as well as yours.
4. You will probably need to carry along a tent - for the Dodital - Hanuman Chatti stretch as this may involve two camps - one just on the other side of Darwa pass and the second one at Seema (or another site) close to Hanuman Chatti. You have to climb 700m from Dodital to the Kanasar pass which is the just the lowest point along the Darwa ridge and this can be pretty tiring. The guide gave me to understand that there was more climbing to be done before the descent towards Seema. So the distance to Seema may be hard to achieve in one day from Dodital.
5. Kalyani to Dodital in one day is very difficult as you are also gaining height. No guide/porter coming with you will agree to this.
6. You can do the Hanuman Chatti - Yamunotri - Hanuman Chatti in a day if you use shared taxi's till Janaki Chatti and trek only the last 5 kms.
7. All the above issues will get definitively answered once you get a guide. So that is the key.

Thanks Writers block. Quite important information given by you. Your article is also awesome giving in-depth knowledge about alternative route for Dodital. Your efforts in giving required information is really appreciable.
Anyway, I have some doubts in mind. Long back I have been to Dodital (some 12 years back). I completed the trek from Kalyani to Dodital in one day. Now after 12 years and crossing 50 years of age and also not being so frequented to trekking, I think still I have the stamina to complete the trek from Kalyani to Bewra to Manjhi to Dodital in one day.
Please inform me the name and phone numbers of the guide with whom you had completed the trek. It will definitely save my time.
I have been associated with Climbers & Explorers Club at New Delhi since 1985 whose sole aim was to complete the trek with bare means and expenditure for full fun of adventure. So having taught of lessons on adventure with these basic thoughts/ principles, I do not want to make it with much of expenditure.
I am still alone for this trek but hope to have one more co-trekker. I have already made arrangements for all sort of trekking equipments including 4 men's tent, free of cost. I can also arrange it for 2-3 co-trekkers also.
If anybody wants leisure and thrill of this trek please inform me well in advance so that I can arrange equipments for him. The itinerary given above is not final, we may change it according to the atmosphere, situation and need of the hour.

You can carry packed stuff from the dhabha at Dodital. Not aware if anything is available at Seema. Looking for co-trekker to accompany on Dodital to Hanumanchatti trek
As per my original plan. Throgh I have made all arrangements, I am still looking for guide/ porter to take us from Dodital to Hanumanchatti. I remember one Shri Balbir Singh Panwar who had helped me a lot in arranging all things during my earlier trek to Dodital. If somebody got chances to meet him on this trek and know his address/ mobile no. please tell me.
I am eagerly waiting for some one who is interested in doing this trek along with me on the same days as I have planned for 16.06.2012 to 23.06.2012. Please come ahead and inform.

Hi, i always get porters and guide from Agoda village. They have never let me down. ContactRajeesh or Ranveer Panwar at the Bharat tourist lodge. The last phone numbers i have are as follows--01374-211023 and 09927099352.Though they should be able to get porter if you just turn up, which i have done for the last 4 years running. Have a good trek, Captain Kit.
Thank you captain kit carson. It is a very helpful information you have given. I will definitely talk to the persons you have mentioned with mobile numbers. Again thanks for the information. This India Mike forum is really of great help.
Again this is a call to every one who is interested to join me on this trek.
