Trekking & Free Peaks

Can somebody tell me the difference between Trekking Peaks & Free Peaks .

Is it mandatory to get a permission from the I.M.F for a Trekking Peak? or Can I just attempt a Trekking Peak ?

Is it also necessary for me to have permission for a Free Peak from the I.M.F .

Please help .

I don't think there is anything as a free peak. You have trekking peaks(Friendship, Ladakhi and Stok Kangri); Open peaks(peaks lying in the open areas); Other peaks( lying within the Inner Line); Virgin peaks(peaks as yet unclimbed.) Of late, besides the IMF, states like Sikkim and Uttarakhand have started charging royalty for attempting peaks lying in their respective states. The fees vary depending on your nationality and the height of the peak.

Thank you very much Praks .

Is it mandatory to seek permission from the I.M.F for a Trekking Peak like Friendship , Ladakhi, Stok Kangri or can I just attempt the peak without an I.M.F permission .
Thanks again

AFAIK, Trekking peaks do not need IMF permission although you may require a permit from their respective states which can be arranged by the tour operator.

You may visit www.indmount.org to get full details.

hi I am confuseed, can some one tell me where I can see the definicien for "open Peaks" I can't see it on IMF, for me it sounds like an open peak is a peak you do not nede a permit to climb, I never thought "peaks lying in the open areas"
