Take one experienced porter for this route. It is easy one and no need of an expensive guide. Off course this is my personal opinion.

I am planning to go there on April 30. There should not be any major weather-related problem on the Ghuttu-Panwali-Trijugi Narayan route in the period Apr 15 - June 5.

West Garhwal map shows that Meru is located north-east of Thalay Sagar. May be that there are some vintage points somewhere in Panwali to view Meru peak. Sadanand |

Trek to Panwali Kantha
Hello,
Finally we have changed our plan and decided to visit Panwali Kantha instead of VoF/Hemkund Sahib. Realised that there is no point in going to VoF/HS in Oct!! Our plan now looks like this: Day 1 - Delhi->Rishikesh Day 2 - Rishikesh->Son Prayag Day 3 - Son Prayag->Triyuginarayan->Kinkhola Khal(/Maggu Chatti) Day 4 - Kinkhola Khal->Panwali Kantha Day 5 - Panwali Kantha->Kinkhola Khal Day 6 - Kinkhola Khal->Triyuginarayan->Chopta Day 7 - Chopta->Tunganath Day 8 - Tunganath->Chandrashila->Chopta->Khirsu Day 9 - Khirsu->Rishikesh->Delhi->Train@7:40 pm to Kolkata To be frank all 5 of us are novice, and this would be our first trek for for that one day!!! Would be grateful to have valuable inputs from you for the following queries:
Your quich response would be highly appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks a lot Somnath!
The contact details look really helpful... I'm highly obliged Could anyone plzzzzzzz reply to my 2nd and 3rd question? Especially the 3rd query regarding local transportation, as our monitory preparation highly depends on this!! ![]() Somnath, According to our latest plan on Day 9 we will start early from Khirsu and have to reach Delhi Stn via Rishikesh by 6PM (as train to Kolkata is @ 7:40PM). Does it look feasible? Please guide me to plan in a better way. Thanks in advance |

OK, Sadanand Kamath will be along soon with all the trekking info, but I just want to quickly add - it makes NO sense to go from Khirsu to Rishikesh. You'll be much closer to Kotdwara from where you will get a direct train to Cal, so that's where you shud be heading.
P.S. if no availability from Kotdwara, check for Najibabad - it's only 25 km ahead. |

Tweety08,
Why don't you consider doing the trek from Malla as per schedule given in post#1? The advantage of this schedule is : 1. Better acclimatisation as you gain altitude gradually. 2. No need to take tents, provisions etc. So you save money. 3. No repeatation of trekking route. 4. You get to see many bugyals from Belak onwards. Sadanand |

I was there in Panwali Kantha last week. Because of the rain, the visiblity was poor. We really could not see the snow peaks. Yes, on the way from Maggu Chatti to Panwali, we saw lots of flowers, probably more than I have seen in VOF.
By the way, the locals does not pronounce the 'n' in the place name.. they refer it as Pawali. Thx |

Due to time and other constraints, I have had to postpone this trek, and hope to do it next summer. Instead, I am going to Kush Kalyani next month, and have posted some queries in another thread. Any information there would be much appreciated. Meanwhile, thank you for the help.
Raghu. |

Raghu,
My best wishes for your Kush Kalyan trek. So it is going to be one bugyal to another one .I have tentatively planned for Dayara Bugyal and Dodital treks for 2009. To this, I may add Kush Kalyan based on your feed back and pictures too. Sadanand |
