Hi Rahul,
I just returned from this trek last week with Polu Ram. Though I had asked him to arrange for all and left the overhead worries to him. He charged me 8000 per person. We were a group of 4 people. He took 5 other porters and offered service of tents, utensils, sleeping bags, food, transportation from Manali to Jobra and Chhatru to Manali.
Overall I am very satisfied with the services given. You may like to try him out. Unless he gone for another trek - he should be available in the above number. Keep trying.
October is perfect time I guess, since by that time there will be no snow. We had to traverse the entire pass on soft ice and it will difficult.
Some portion of the trek is exposed and I will not vote for using mules. I guess one can do without a guide but in my experience they add to the safety bit and in this case Polu was only one experinced in the route.
Let me know if you need any other information on this.

Hi Raj,
My husband and I too are going for the trek with Polu Ram starting 11 july. I just wanted to check with you on how cold it was at the campsites... would it make sense to carry sweaters or a jacket would do. we dont want to carry extra weight on us hence thought of checking here.
Thanks!

Hi
Lowest temparature would be at the pass but you dont need to spend a night there. Day time temparature will be warm and at times when it will be clody - you may feel some chill. Take a good fleece jacket and that will do. Keep one extra sweater for night camp at Balu Ka Gera and Sheagoru. Polu gives sleeping bags with inners. They will keep you warm at night.
To answer your question, campsite temparature will be between 1-2 degree at higher camps (Balu Ka Gera & Sheagoru) and rest of the camp sites will be pleasant.
Best of luck.
Rajat

How about trek in August 2011
Hi jyotipg and all,
I've been reading some of your articles. I really enjoyed them article and seems you know a lot about trekking in North India. I live and work in Bangalore, and unfortunately do not have too many days off. I would like to do a shorter 3-4 day trek. I'm looking at taking a week, but in there I have to add in travel time, stopping in somewhere to get used to the elevation, etc. Your 4 day itinerary seems a great for me!!
But, to be sure, I'm really open to any trek. I had an itinerary previously that was going to take me to a few places. But, decided that instead of seeing all these places (Chandigarh, Rishikesh,Shimla, Mcleod Ganj, Manali, Amritsar, etc.), I would concentrate on one or two and do a trek from them. I've also been checking out the valley of the flowers trek, as I hear that is very beautiful this time of year and is shorter.
Your advice is well appreciated, and would enjoy knowing your thoughts on if this trek would be right for me, or if I should look at others? It should be noted that I am alone, and will need to meet up with others.
Thanks,
Aaron

keep it up Jyotiji. You are doing a good job. Your info. regarding various treks will help others to self-organise the trek & save lot of money or visit lot many places with same money which we will pay to the trek organisers. Pl. come up with lot more threads like this.
A very late reply, I guess.
We did not go to the pass, but rather went straight off towards Pangarchulla - itenary was
Day 1 Auli -gorson top - talli camp
Day 2 - Talli camp - khullara camp
Day 3 - Khullara - advance camp @ pangarchulla
Day 4 - summit pangarchulla - return to khullara
Its a good trek to do while there is still good snow on Pangarchulla - I guess, upto May end.
