trek from manikaram to mundoli-gwaldam

Looking for some info, please.The plan is to trek from manikaram over the pin-parbati pass,then veer left and cross the bhabha pass to wangtu, make my way to sangla and through the rupin pass to netwar, make my way to auli and trek from there to mundoli.Starting trekking beg of sept, 2 months time.As i am alone will have tend and pots to carry.I need some porter/mule/who doubles as guide.Are they easily found at the start of every new stretch and how much do i have to budget for? I suppose there are no dhabas along the routes like in pindari.Thanks for your help.

At first I thought you have gone off your mind. Then I saw your schedule... its quite sensible actually. A small nit. Start the trek around 15 August and finish by 15 Oct. After 15 Oct, heavy snowfall tends to occur in Kumaon [your ending leg]

I have done Pin Parvati and then Pin Bhaba together in Aug-Sept 2005. Most of the other parts also, but not at a stroke... I like your plan.

A guide will NOT double up as porter. There is a pecking order here. Best is to hunt for a porter who has done the route. Hiring porters is quite tedious sometimes. No dhabas along the route. Except very near road-heads.

Thanx, i tried once the pin-parbati pass starting mid-august,it rained and rained and rained, so after kirganga came back(and went to ladhak), that's the reason i want to start later this time.Did sunderdhunga last year beg of nov but no snow, except at devi kund.Suppose every year it's different.Any idea how much porters and guides charge?In kumaon i usually pay around rs 300 a head x day plus food.But i am told that in HP and in garwal they are more expensive.A couple of time i was able to hire a horseman with two horses who doubled as a guide and as a cook too, with my limited help.Obviously i am prepared to pay a fair fee.

Most of your route is for "humans only" to climb.

Laden horses can do a few portions at best.

You will get porters at all stages, but its a tedious task.

Some days might be lost in this.

HP is more expensive than Kumaon, Ladakh more than HP

No choice. If you gotta go, you go. Porter fees has not stopped me yet.

Hi,
I agree and the guide/ porters will have to be changed at the begining of each trek. Any way two months is good enough time for the plan and looking for porter at the end of each section of the trek will give some rest.

Doesn't Sangla-Naitwar via Rupin pass require an ILP, specially for foreigners? Thought I'd read something like that on IM, but not sure.

An Inner Liner Permit. Required in certain remote areas, sometimes by foreigners only, sometimes by everyone. The Borasu pass crossing requires one, not sure about Rupin crossing. Let's see what the reply is.

Prior to 1992 the inner line was demarcated at Wangtu .....

After that, it is now "5 km off the int'l border" in some places.

NOW you require an ILP to travel between Jangi and Sumdo (on the road) in Spiti.

Rupin Pass Trek, NO ILP required at present.

When I wrote "Thought I'd read something like that on IM, but not sure.", - I was referring to this post by guess who?

- just found it again.
I vaguely recalled mention of the ITBP check-post and Borasu, that's what triggered my previous Q. Two thumbs up to u for always coming up with the goods.

Is the ITBP at Nagasti or before that? Not that I'm going, just curious.

4 to 5 km from Chhitkul. See this post.

"Nagasti" are a series of meadows. Ideal for sheep. So this makes the ITBP checkpost "somewhere AT Nagasti".
