Actually I had planned to spend 2-3 weeks exploring all side treks including Nanda Devi East .... but once there on trail, I realised 15th May (in 2007) was a bit early for those side treks.... in fact the main trail itself was declared open on 11th May only by SDM Munsiary... before that he had sent back many tourists. And in most places like Martoli, Barfu, Milam only the first few locals had arrived and opened shop. In Martoli, only one teashop was open, in Barfu too only 1 or 2 ...and even those owners were saying their main "supplies" ponies still to come.

The locals also advised side treks can be difficult and snowy and suggested only after 10th June after some further melt.

For side treks perhaps sept would be a good month?

Then i guess june 10th should be best ... OR maybe a thumbrule of 1 month after main trail opens.

I have taken most treks in the month of Sept and my experience had been very good. We had clear sky, moderate cold and green valleys everywhere. Those who love snow may find a bit disappointing. I take it that it should not be very different for treks in around Milam insofar as weather is concerned. Of course, there are exceptions.

Sadanand ....

I agree, most of my treks were in sept too and i have never been disappointed with viewing of snow-covered peaks then. Infact, I did the Milam trek in May this year, as I am planning to do the Everest Base Camp trek in Sept-07 and want clear skies for that most certainly.... KS

Hi .... Milam forum friends;

To see the 44 pictures taken at the Corbett Tiger Reserve, in Uttaranachal go to: http://www.flickr.com/

My flickr Id: ks_bluechip and see the album SET "Corbett Tiger Park May-2007"

A simpler way is to see the pictures thru a third party (a Harvard student's) Lite-Slideshow at:

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~prussell/sslite/

enter my Flickr-User-ID: ks_bluechip and once all my sets are got, select "Corbett Tiger Park" set and watch the slideshow with PLAY/Stop buttons...

I will see if I can post this message also in a forum for corbett park, if existing.
