I wud agree about Chaukori and Mukteshwar. Munsyari I thought was a bit too close (if that's possible ) in that one doesn't get the kind of panorama like in Chaukori simply becos of being that much closer!
Also driving to/from Ranikhet for only the third time recently (first one was at 15 - months that is!), I realised that the road westbound probably has one of the best 'driving' views in the entire Himalaya - on a clear day a few hours parallel to the snow-ranges is bloody amazing in my view.

Have cycled and walked through the mountains in Northern India and Pakistan several times and have to say that I much prefer the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Unsurpassable.
Alas, no beer at the end of the day though......

You can get wonderful views from Mukteshwar, if u r coming from Haldwani or nainital before reaching Mukteshwar there is place called Gagar, again u can get brilliant views from there.Gagar is just before malla Ramgarh.Best time to view Himalayas is November and December.One can get good views from Vridh Jageshwar,Devidhura Temple as well.Those who are coming to see himalayas from delhi the best and closest place I would say is Gagar(Ramgarh).

I think Karakoorem in Pakistan, the Nepal Annapourna region and Everest from tibeten side tops the indian himalayas.

I was in rishap(west bengal) during monsoon last to last year.In the night there was rain.when it stops moon came out like a sickle.and the whole range can be seen like a black and white movie with grayish touch.I stayed outside my cottage that whole night in cold.that was my best till date.
