Personally I was blown away with the views of Trishul and Nanda Devi from Kausani..............In the right conditions you can catch a snowcap panorama of some 325 miles. The sunset was staggering!!

The view of Nandi Devi from Naini tal is ok but a better view is from the road between Joshimath & tapovan where its white snow capped peak peeks over the top of the surrounding rather large hills. there are lots of nice peaks to be seen between Leh & Rhotang. By the way can someone please tell me how the hell i add photos to this? please excuse my ignorance! kk

Yes, Kausani views are wonderful. I was there in Last Feb'05. But unfortunately I was there for only one day & the weather in the morning was cloudy so missed out on the sunrise. but still the views at sunset & day time were excellent. Also the views from Munsyari (Uttaranchal) are excellent.

It is not possible to just say hey look this is the place you have the best mountain scenery. The whole of Himalayan range is stunningly beautiful & the beauty is truely diverse. From the shining barren stone face of the ranges in Kinnaur to lush green of Uttaranchal, Kumaon to the wet & misty ambience of eastern Himalayas you have them all. Different flora & fauna, customs, costumes add to the over all beauty. The bugiyals of Belak & Panwali are unimaginably beautiful so is the view from Chandrashila, Rai bangla, Yumthung & so mnay other places so picking up the best is simply not possible, at least for me.

OK, it's not strictly in the Himalaya, but the trek to Rakaposhi base trek in northern Pakistan puts you right in front of the massif, so close you feel you can reach out and touch, Diran on the left with a mind-blowing ridge linking it to Rakaposhi on the right. All day long you can watch avalanches crashing down from the ridge, and walk on the glacier.

I'll have the pictures uploaded next month.

This was from the hotel balcony at Keylong. About 7:30 in the morning.

Coming to think of it, these places were never in my map as I set off from home. My plans were Lahaul, Spiti and back via Rohtang, Manali, if Kunzum La was open. But right on the day I set off (June 26, 2005), there were heavy floods in Satluj and I had to change my plans on the fly.

Darcha; that's the Chandra river

I couldn't proceed further after Darcha because of this:

So I had about half a day to roam around and explore before starting back for home the next day. I took some roads leading off the main road and explored the places with no definite plan in hand.

This is 'May', abt 12 Kms off the highway...

Shansha, 25 KMs from Tandi. Not exactly the lofty snow capped moutain peak; this is on the Tandi - Udaipur road.

Near Rohtang pass, 6:00 AM

Howazzat?

Many years back I rode from Kalimpong to Gantok by mule, that scenery of hills and mountains has stayed with me and has been an abiding memory. The wonderful people we met on the way and the hospitality could never be repeated. Ah to be young enough to do that now !!

Hi,
Better you be in Garhwal Himalayas, trek Deali Sera near by Kuari pass, climb Pangar chuli and get the view og india second highest peak Mt. Nanda devi and other close peaks. view of tibet range peaks and zansar and chaukhamba peak views.

Can encouter all himalayan peaks and its ranges from it.

i did this trek in 2004. great trek and great views,. Be there and guess what i say ?

All the best & Cheers !!

The most wow - inducing that I've seen was the view from a point just above Samiti Lake - you are standing directly under Mt Pandim and looking right at Kanchenjunga and it's associated peaks. Great stuff.
The Nun-Kun massive in the Kasmiri Himalayan, as seen from the top of Lago La comes a very close second. Incidently Lago La apparently means Pass of No Consequence - it certainly didn't feel like that on the way up!
The gorgeous Sangla (or Baspa) Valley also gets an honourable mention (I've even forgiven it for trying to wipe me out with an avalanche).
So, what does everyone else think?

The view of K2 from Concordia, the Hunza Valley, Machapuchari, Annapurna base camp, the north face of Everest???????

I'd love to know!!!!
