Tapvan Nandanvan Vasukital trek (9th - 16th September 2012)

Hi I am planning this trek in second week of September and I need some information.

1. It involves walking along the glacier, so would I need ice walking tools (Crampons, iceaxe etc)
2. What is the expected temp. at Vasuki Tal. Would I need down-jacket or normal multi-layered clothing would suffice.
3. Would there be snow on route, although I know chances are very less at this time?
4. How intense the rains would be during second week of September? Monsoon is extending well in September in last few years, and this is looking the case this year also.

Thanks in advance to all the frnds, who would reply.

@Sanjive time for trek is good and also weather will be good not too much rain, skip the 1st point no need to Crampons, iceaxe etc., You can cross only tow glacier to till Vasukital.you have need 60 mts rope when climb the wall before Vasukital it near 60 feet,

2nd point ; The expected temp. at Vasuki Tal in night below then 0 or - 5 to -10. please carry good one down-jacket and others worm cloth for this trek.

No any snow at this moment but some time snowing will be but it just like a powder less then half feet.

About rain may be Gngotri or before that but on high altitude not too much this time.

I hope you're aware that Gangotri region and surrounding areas remain cut off from the rest of the world due to the recent devastating flashfloods. The bridges are down, the roads have been washed away and if the recent pics from the area are any indication, the situation is still quite grim there. So before you start your journey, make sure you confirm if the traffic has been restored in the areas you want to visit. I had plans of going to Gaumukh-Tapovan late September too, but I still don't know if I should go ahead as planned or cancel my tickets.

Check out the following thread for more info:

Agreed Jef. This trek is being planned by some organisation and this was confirmed by them that traffic is being restored slowly slowly and by that time, it should come to normal.

Thanks dost, keep us posted. This would be sad, if we could not reach Gangotri. All preparations are done, mentally prepared and excited about the trek. Lets see what happens. Is there any other route to reach Gangotri, which is open (may be longer)?
