Talking

Puchka = Phuchka=Fuchka = pani puri = gol gappa = gup chup (anyone from Orissa?) ….. but the general reaction is almost same in every corner of India. Just think about this tiny globe …… saliva secretion is guaranteed . Ha ha ha….

Anyways, the latest news: I talked to Mr. Satyajit (Ria Mount Support) with a reference from another friend. Rate is same almost everywhere in Kolkata but here I am going to get some advantage – no security deposit (whole credit goes to that good soul who recommended me), couple of days consideration (since we’ll be back on 19th which is Sunday and fight will start from the next day… hence 1 or 2 days delay is expected to return some material) and a new set of gears will be ready in October for hiring – and we’ll be the first customer (he’ll charge a few rupees more). Sound good to me as well as my team members.

Supratim, you still deserve that fuchka treat. 1 KG is not too much – don’t worry . This is just nothing after that difficult trek.

Sure I’ll ask him and inform you accordingly. And I’ll send you the phone number of Mr. Satyajit.

[quote=roy_supratim05;518176]Urvashi, Welcome to IM.

The scenario has been changed after the incident in last year (2007) September.

Hi Somnath and all,
Good going thread. Fuchka,Dilliwala, rude and greedy and what not. All information on Gangorti,Harsil & Tapovan.
Now my question to Supratim is, what exactly happened on September last year? Please give a brief report. I am ignorant about that.

PS. Somnath, did you able to contact Sudev of Alpine for your tents etc.

Thumbs up Hi,

Good morning Somnath da,
Yes I did the same. As per the discussion with Mr. Hazra everything is available and we need to book in advance. To be very honest ….. we tried different organizations in Kolkata and finally decided to get these gears from Ria Mount Support. They are not only providing competitive rate but also a better deal like, no caution money (thanks to our friend – it is due to his recommendation only) and he is agreed that it may take couple of extra days to return everything so not going to charge for 2 – 3 days. As I said in earlier post we’ll comeback on 19th Sunday and everyone will be busy like anything after such a long vacation. Hence it may take 2-3 days to collect all the equipments from everyone. He is ready (on request) to open his shop in holidays also.
This is no doubt, a big advantage for us. Moreover, someone from our team went to check the quality of the materials and ensured that they look really good.

@Somnath
Thanks, I should must visit Ria Mount Support in September, before my goecha-la trek in October.

@Somnath Biswas
Actually prev. year september between 18th to 23rd suddenly a very very bad weather (locals call it "Badal Tuta") came from no where which caused lots of rainfall, tons of fresh snowfall and the routes between Gangotri and Badrinath has became very very dangerous. Satopanth peak summit team from Mumbai, teams near Kalindi, teams for Chhangauch peak summit all fallen in bad weather and lots of army helicopters needed to rescue them. 7 people died in that incident. Vanglung glacier has been broken, Laxmivan near Satopanth Taal has been flooded and the pool from Mana village to cross Alaknanda river has gone. Lots of routes got landslides and became tough.

But anyway trekking and summit will go on but we need to be more cautious and respectful to nature.

Yes I heard this when I visited Gomukh in early Octorber last year. It was then I heard the permission thing is going to be introduced. I also experienced cloudy bad weather with hailstorm and could not photograph Gomukh properly.

Just to be clear for anyone having a difficult time making sense of the above:
What is meant is a bridge (pul in Hindi).

Thanks for clarifying but in the Himalaya, even a pool of water disappearing is possible and has happened.

No doubt, but I suspect those sort of pools aren't very useful in crossing rivers.
