How else do you peel mangoes, get into tin cans, open beer bottles, unscrew plugs to check they're wired okay and cut your fingernails - with your bare teeth maybe?

I always carry my Victorinox Climber which gets a lot of use both at home and abroad. After all, you never know when you might need a corkscrew in an emergency!

I was lucky...!

Hiya...
Before I left for my last trek to Panwalikantha, I had gone to the CSD Canteen to see if I could find a raincoat I might like to carry along (I was leaving a couple of hours later)...
Well... I couldn't find the Raincoat I wanted (picked one up elsewhere from the market) but wonder of wonders... I saw the Victorinox brand of the Swiss Army Knife at one of the counters... And picked it up immediately... A tremendous discount for the 6-7 pull-out SAK... And a t-shirt free to go with it...!!! Just one hitch - though extremely handy, it's difficult for a person who keeps his/her nails extremely short to pull out the blessed thingies and put them to good use...!
Cheers...!!!

Just one point of view...

I feel that the Swiss Army Knife is actually just one of the most successfully marketed products, albeit, of extremely limited utility...

I personally feel that the SAK is more suitable as a multi-utility tool kit for usage as part of the city life...

When you are out in the woods, or trekking in the mountains, what do you need a screwdriver or the sundry other tools popping out of it, for...???

Just a sharp-edged knife with a strong handle (non-foldable) is much more useful for cutting vegetables, chopping wooden branches for starting a fire, digging up the earth, cutting through ice, protection against possible attack from the wild animals, cutting up potential food items (the moving kind) and what not... I can go on & on...

I do have a SAK but feel that a long sharp-edged knife with a strong handle is more practical and useful when you really need it for yourself and not to show it off to others...!

Cheers...!

I have one of these (it screws into the corkscrew for storage) to pull out anything stubborn with, on the rare occasions that I wear nail varnish, but a genuine Victorinox which is kept well oiled isn't stiff to use.
