I don't know but those little knives have to be the most knocked-off commodity in the history of mankind. Just make sure you buy something that is worthy of the price you pay ..... and won't break cutting open a mango.

The two main brands are Victorinox and Wenger. One of them has an india website.

the most overpriced knife in the world ... there are plenty of substitutes just as good for a fraction of the price ... probably easier to find outside India

In Mumbai, there is a 50 per cent discount on some three models going on. Not the expensive ones. I bought the Rs 480 model for Rs 225.

Question Buying S.A.K. in Delhi?

Just came across this thread and I have a related question. I will be arriving in Delhi next month. Flying with carry-on bag only which means I have to leave my Swiss Army Knife at home. Will feel totally lost without it. Well almost. Anyway, can anyone recomend a place in Delhi to buy a replacement for this trip? Hopefully one that sells genuine article, maybe even second hand ones at a good price?

By the way: anyone looking for a SAK should know that the only genuine ones are Victornox and Wenger. Knock offs (espically from China) are not only cheaply made, they are dangerous. Blades break or do not lock up properly. Easy to get hurt using one of these.

I went looking around CP for a knife and found a shop that sells them -- though I can't tell you where it is, it's somewhere near Janpath.

I didn't get a Swiss Army knife; I don't need that sort of utility. I need something with which to peel fruit or maybe open an occasional envelope.

Found a "Rat" brand knife; it was purple aluminum, and had one very sharp blade. I loved it. Lost it last year in San Francisco.

there are these categories like
Climber
Huntsman
Explorer
in the victronix range
Have had two of them for a decade now. Never failed to serve...used the knife even for chipping wood and cutting vegetables etc.... They are higher priced but I guess the quality of material is worth it. If you get one at 50% discount just grab it would be my recommendation.

What does it have anything to do with traveling in India? I wonder if this is the right forum to be asking that question.

Ah, my mistake! Perhaps I should have asked an Indian travel question?

OK: Can anyone suggest a destination in Delhi where I might be able to buy a SAK?

Maury,

I understand that there a few authorised showrooms in Delhi for Victorinox but I don't know where they are since I never saw the need to buy one. But I have certainly seen an outlet in Gurgaon selling the stuff (an outlet on the first floor of the City Centre Mall).
