I am planning a snow trek in Jan. I should buy sunglasses.
Any specific kind of glasses required for snow? Are eye wear made by "Titan fast track" good enough for my purpose? And any idea of their cost? |

When, Where, how long? You can get away by blacking out lens of some old glasses, and leaving a slit in the middle. This works as well.

Any brand will do. But ensure it has polaroid film coating and UV lenses to protect from heavy sun rays and white blindness. During morning sunrises can be blistering and stressful to the eyes.

Glacier glasses
If you are able to get hold of a pair, try to get glacier glasses. They have a reflective coating with a mirror finish which reflects back harmful UV rays. They also have side protection which prevents harmful rays entering from the side.
If you cannot get a pair of glacier glasses, get a good pair of goggles and make sure that the tint is NOT blue. Orange, green or grey is acceptable but not blue. |

praveen !
I think you can do without them. I have used virtually everything in snow and have seen that poloroid/UV matters were duration of exposure is too much. For trekking ...you can go ahead with any normal black goggles. They will work even in skiing. |

Hi,
If you do not mind spending a bit go for the Fastrack, which you will get for 1200 or so and will serve you for long. Please do not mistake for the Fast Track which are also there for Rs. 100 or so.

from my experience, in the snow:
1. the glass has to be really really dark 2. it needs to "wrap around" or prevent light from entering from the sides. Most regular sun glasses become useless in the snow. If you can post pictures orf the Titan glasses, experienced travelers may be able to better respond. |

Thank u all for the suggestions.
Yesterday I bought fasttrack sunglasses for 1200. Written 100% UV protection. Shape is also good. My concerns are they have blue tint glasses, and also they are not that dark. Would that be a problem? |

Hi,
I think you missed my point. I hope you have bought fastrack and not fast track. Please not the difference. If you have bought fastrack do not worry, they are good. |

Yes, that could create a problem. The blue tint is not very effective in filtering out harmful UV rays. The recommended tints are orange, grey, green or any tint other than blue.
