Suggest treks Himachal/Uttarakhand in late April pls?

Hi all,

Me and my wife are planning to trek in late April to avoid the May tourist season rush. Can anyone please suggest doable treks within a span of 10-12 days?

We have trekked to places like Harkidun jaundhar glacier (twice), Tungnath, Sanndakfu, Khreeganga, etc, though I would not call us 'trekkers' -- we have not done any passes or tented out on our own.

We were thinking of Tapovan. a) is it doable late April? b) Are there any other treks you would suggest? We are looking at at least 13000 feet, and don't mind snowfall, as long as we don't have to walk on ice.

Please advise?

hi,

lots of trekking options are available, like panchchuli, milam, pindar, etc...

Have a look on some trek reports here and then you can decide:

It will be wise not to think of Kedartal or Tapovan in April.
Har Ki Dun valley can be a good option.

Umm, don't u think that u shud be telling the member that Gangotri-Nandanvan route requires a PERMIT before the date of opening of Gangotri temple (early-May)? Otherwise how will he get past the ITBP at Kopang?
And that ALL arrangements need to be made in Uttarkashi - permits, supplies, equipment, porters, etc?

ustad,
U need to be well aware of the above and plan accordingly if u want to go to Tapovan.
Other than that, since Panwali Kantha has been mentioned, that's a trek u cud easily do end-April, going onto Khatling glacier of course. GMVN has GHs at Ghuttu, Reeh and Gangi, so u won't need a tent except at Khatling I guess.

Dear All and Ustad,
Trekking in april can be very good fun, specially in some places u will find beautiful rhododandron and new fresh leaves in forest.Har-ki-dun and Kuari pass can be good.Any trek which is not higher then 4500m can be great!
I did one trek in mid april last year (Namik La)in koumaun and it was great to see Rhododandron in full bloom.

Hi,
i think as per yours choise Khattling trek is the best because in this trek you can see best forest of uttranchal, snow trek. Its start fron Guttu then Reeh(Rest house),Gangi(Rest house) Bhehbag(Camping) Khatling(Camping). In the same another their is Panwali kanta its als start from Guttu & you can go to kedar from Panwalikanta. If you want cross any pass then Kauri Pass is the best for that time.
& If you want cross any pass then Sept mont is the best time for that.
[u][u]NOteont make programme in The Dharma Valley(Pancha Chuli) Because Lots of Cheeters live thier.

hi,
Tnx for reply...
but dear friend, i dont think i mentioned "trekking before temple opening" cos i also very much awear about paper work..And my suggested treks r up to members requirments (10 -10 days trek).. is true that u need permt from utterkash.. and if u trek ur own so u need supplies, equipment, porters from utterkashi (for nandanvan), cos gmvs has guest house at bhojbasa.
And its true {GMVN has GHs at Ghuttu, Reeh and Gangi, so u won't need a tent except at Khatling}but what abt after "gangi"?? u need tents, so u have to carry equipment, supplies from rishikesh/uttarkash (depends on which route u taking)..

tnx & happy travelling

I know u didn't mention trekking before temple opening, but that's exactly when the OP wants to trek and therefore it needed to be made clear that there are restrictions/constraints in place at that time of year.
Re Khatling: My post says where there's a GMVN, no tent is required. The rest is then easy to deduce.
