Hi, October is a very good season for Goecha La trek
. U have to take porter or yak from Yaksom.yak charges = 300 per day + the yak driver's meal ![]() porter harges = 200-250 per day + meal ![]() U have to pay entry fees, camera fees, camping fees ets. at Yaksom forest office. Be aware of ration, porters will refuse to go further in case of shortage of ration. I've also planned to go to Goecha La trek in first week of October. Lets see what happens. U can check this thread - "http://www.indiamike.com/india/showthread.php?t=37793". This thread was posted by me coz. like u I was also novice about Goecha La .Happy trekking. |

Starting Nov-17 would mean greater chance of meeting snow. But one can never be sure. If you can prepone by 2-3 weeks, it will be good. But if you can't, you could still go ahead and be better prepared for the snow .... i.e. boots with good grips, sunglasses, walking sticks, less back-pack load, patience to wait it out etc. .... KS

As for roy_supratim05's concern about rations, have your porters see your stock and estimate it's sufficiency. Or it is easier to buy rations at Yoksum itself with the help of your porters, that's what we did.

We have visted Gochala Pass in May 2006 and we find that is the best time where not much rain wil be there.Butr weather is always unpredictable even in May as it is used to rain suddenly and then suddenly sun light. So unpredicatble and most of the time it used be very Foggy in that month also. You can see the photos of that trek at
http://in.zorpia.com/ykravi/album/81...ikkim_Trekking and the Prominent peak is Kanchanazanga from Gochala is viewed at http://in.photos.zorpia.com/ykravi/p....98c1b2/000034 |

Hi all,
One more thing I want to know that if there is any alternative route from Phedang to Thangshing avoiding Dzongri. If any one have the idea of that route please give me information about that route. Thanks in advance. |

Yeah you are right. There is a route which is comparatively easy but you are going to miss the breathtaking view of sunrise from Dzongri top. You can avail that route during return journey (Porters / Guides do not show that much interest to avail this trail because it reduces one / two days ). Who knows about the weather? An overcast morning may kill the fun at Goecha la view point. So I don’t think you should miss an opportunity at Dzongri top.- Somnath

Thank you Somnath for you quick reply. Hummm...you are right. I think it will be better to avail that route during return journy. Actualy I am seeking for this alternative due to my lack of leaves. If we avail this route during our return journey how can we reduce days?

Awwww….. well, since the said path is comparatively easy you’ll be able to cover some more distance. So, yes that’s possible. BTW, what is your plan, I mean itinerary?
Walker, there are some threads regarding this route (like this one: Goecha La Trek ), i think this will give you some idea to prepare your itinerary / plan . |

Our plan is
Day 1: Yuksum to Tsoka Day 2: Tsoka to Dzongri Day 3: Stay at Dzongri (Depends on our leaves) Day 4: Dzongri to Samiti Lake Day 5: Samiti Lake to Goecha La and back to Thangshing Day 6: Tangshing to Tsoka (Via that route) Day 7: Tsoka to Yuksum. What do you think is it OK? One more thing, the day of reaching Yuksum, shall we get enough time to arrange all things (like porters, some shoppings etc)? |

what I know is now camping is not allowed at Samiti Lake, so if u r confirm abt getting trekkers hut then it is ok, else convert it to Zemathang. but Zemathang will be very cold, be prepared for that.

Hi Walker,
As I suggest everyone plz keep an extra day before Tsoka. Day 1 Yuksam to Sajen / Kokchung and Tsoka on 2nd day. It is not only the fitness level but depends on the condition of the bridge no 1 and 2. And if you unfortunately face some trouble on 1st bridge, you need to walk for some extra kilometers and let me tell you the experience was not very good for us. But if you can cover the distance between Yuksam and Tsoka on 1st day – that’s better. Day 4 – I think you need to have a break at Thanshing. Day 6 – you can easily come down to Bakhim. Good point from Supratim. This route is different – tour organizers use to occupy the hut well in advance and then it could be a bit tricky to get an accommodation. You can send your porter early to occupy some space for you. |

For a first days on the trek..Yaksum to Tshoka is pretty tough..At least thats what we felt..One can take a braek at Bakkhim..about two kms below Tshoka..
That narrow path from Thangsing to Phedang avoiding Dzongri is one of the worst I have ever travelled..specially after rains..can't remember how many times we slipped and feel due to the mud( muck rather).. But it was great fun. |
