Skiing in Gulmarg: difficultly level

Hi there,

I'm considering a ski trip in Gulmarg. Looking at the map, I see no marked trails -- rather, it looks like a big powder bowl.

I've been skiing a few times. I feel comfortable on greens and blue slopes, but I'm by no means an expert. What will I be in for if I ski Gulmarg?

Hmm

It wont be difficult at all and you are right its essentially a mountain side with a gentle slope where most of the skiing happens. The concept in - itself is pretty unique from the Indian perspective and most if not all are happy simply being on Ski's.. forget cross country, trails, jumps etc

anything is possible sir

Namaste/Assalam alaikum!
We're on our way to gulmarg now - the slow way, should be there in mid Jan. Sounds to me from what others have said that some areas can be steep/deep/hairy and others gentle like a dhobi wallah's lungi drying in the sun. So who know"s what we'll find? Just like India! My sons are hoping for extreme. I'm cautiously optimistic of getting what we wish for.
I think a guide sounds advisable if heading further afield, one with good avalanche sense. I looked into hiring Avalanche Beacons there, but the guys from 'Ski Himalaya' were asking $100/week/unit. a bit steep for us!
Also, does anyone know current gondola prices?
Anyway, hope you make it there!
