Skiing away from KASHMIR

Hello,

My office holidays will begin in two days and will end on Jan 1, 2006.
I am thinking of hopping to India if I can try skiing (Never done that before).

So, here it goes:

Has skiing started already for this year (as of today) in any of Indian ski-resorts? If YES, what are they? Are they any better in mid-Feb/mid-March than now (i.e--Is end december the coldest & snowiest for any of them?) -

PS: I prefer to ski in a place "away from kashmir/gulmar" due to personal security reasons, but if it's safe now, i do not mind...

Thanks in advance for any of your insights/info..etc

Auli is a popular hotspot for skiing in Garwhal, UP. You can learn more about it on the state's tourism website. The skiing courses usually start around December end / early Jan. You can call them up and find out about the snowfall this year. Start here

skiing

Go to auli the best ski resort center.Cheap and Safe you can find all facilities overthere.
Good spot for begineers. Can stay in Joshimath just 10 km before from Auli.
First time ski seems difficult, but after two or three days you will be self attracted on it,and will do it more and more.
You can get more info..about skiing course and ski lesson on these website
www.uttaranchatoursium.com/ www.thehimalayanadventures.com / www.thegarhwalhimalayas.com / www.adventuretrekking.org / www.gmvn.com,those are good websites which provide good skiing details and info... Hope you will enjoy it.

Hve a nice skiing tour !! Be Safe !!

hi,
the other options/replies that u have got are basically for well known tourist places and they are also pretty frequented. so u might find a lot of crowd. how about trying munsiary? it is a very beautiful place and even the way to munsiary is just toooo good . they organise skiing there form december to march - depending on snowfalls. if u want, i can give u the number of the kmvn tourist rest centre in munsiary. these are the guys who organise skiing out there. i had gone there in september and it had already started snowing in the higher reaches of milam valley. also, if u want, then just ping back. i will post the links of that area. it was just tooooo good .. and i guess winters will make it more fantastic.
cheers.

There usually is a brief two-day winter monsoon in the Himalaya around January 25th. The best skiing will be right after that. The best Himalayan skiing will involve chartered helicopters. That will get expensive real quick.
