amar,
for a second I was worried there was a war on which no one knew of when u described "BRO bombing activity", till I figured u probably meant the blasting with explosives.
I think they might have been doing it for road-widening? I passed that way in Nov, when they had started prelim work, but no indication then whether it was repairs or widening work.
Good that u enjoyed the trip.

lol Dilliwala ... true it was for widening... the problem in the area is that there are many loose rocks esp form Gauchar onwards hence landslides due to vibrations and tremors due to blasts in other close by areas also... But it a nice exp to have anyways...

Amar,

Great to hear that you enjoyed your trip - the pictures are superb!

I am going to Auli on March 8. My big concern is that the snow will melt by then. How are the snow conditions right now? Also wanted to find out how you booked the car from Haridwar to Joshimath and how much it cost.

Thanks.

Hi Cogito,

The snow will melt for sure. The time we went up to Auli and after 4 days on the way down they was a noticeable difference. I presume you will see snow on the tops and to exp some snow you might have to trek up to Gruson top above tower 10. Else proper Auli its not going to be possible.

For transport we had hired a tempo traveler for 15 ppl ex-Delhi itself. It took us from Delhi onwards to Auli and dropped us back to Delhi. We had got a good package as we knew few people around. But i guess for a car it would be approx 16-18k from Delhi onwards. To give you an idea after the landslide we paid the jeep chap Rs 2500 for 9 of us from Gauchar to Joshimath.
