You can even trek from Ranikhet to Almora in a single day, but you have to start very early.Mukteshwar to Almora is another a good trek wont take more than 4-5 hrs.
Not recommended in night.

several short trekking options exist from mukhteshwar - all can be done in a single day... a few also possible from pauri...

but the dodital trek, is slightly longer... ideally, u go in from uttarkashi side; stop over at dodital, cross over at darba top, between the yamunatic valley and the gangetic valley and end up at hanumanchatti, just short of yamunotri... thatz the complete trek and ideally, it should take 4-5 days, with time for acclimitisation et all...

There are 3-4 good treks close by Mukteshwar.
1) Mukteshwar ---> Almora (less than 5 hrs)
2) Mukteshwar ---->Motiyapathar(nice place) (3 hrs max)
3) Mukteshwar ----->Talla Ramgargh (around 3-4 hrs)
4) Mukteshwar ----->Devidhura(via shaharfatak,mornaula..This might not be possible in one day)

Regarding the Dodital trek, I dont think its possible in one day..Pithoragarh to Dhwaj is another small trek(steep climb),one can also do Almora to Jageshwar(one side).
