Singalila Ridge trek

Hello,

Am looking to do the easy-moderate Singalila trek in May, and have been looking at organized packages online. Compared to the prices quoted in Lonely Planet and Footprint the prices quoted to me from tour operators is extremely pricey.

I don't mind paying a little more to have some things pre-organized (I don't have much time beforehand to sort anything out) but these quoted prices (US600/500€) seem exhorbitant.

Is it still ok to just appear in Darjeeling and organize a trek then and there? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, Dellis
Don't worry with your time,it is very much possible to organize a trek after reaching Darjeeling by yourself. From where do you want to start your trek?

Well, I'm still looking at options but this will be one of my first treks in the Indian Himalaya so I plan on taking it easier this time. I have no doubt that I will come back many times, increasing the difficulty of terrain.

Primarily, I'd love to see lots of Kanchendzonga which shouldn't be hard, and plan on starting out from Manebhanjang, although I am open to suggestions for those who have gone before. I'll probably arrive in Darjeeling around the 13th of May.

Wish it would be easy and enjoyable for you.Actually you do not have to go to Darjeeling, road separates from Ghoom for manebhanjan. The time which you have chosen is not a rush time so you can get lodging every where.Best route according to me is
Manebhanjan-Tonglu
Tonglu-Kalpokhri
Kalpokhri-Sandakphu
Sandakphu-Phalut
Phalut-Gorkhey
Gorkhey-Srikhola
Srikhola-Rimbik-Darjeeling.
You will get a guide from Manebhanjan.I think this way you can enjoy most.
