short treks from shimla
hey!
i'm travelling to india this summer...july...and plan to spend about a week around shimla. I would like to go to Dharamsala and Amritsar aswel. Can anyone recommend a short (2 days) trek from anywhere around this area? I really don't know much about this area...any recommendations of good things to see/do/stay would be really helpful! thanks, rachael |

July is a monsoon month and hence not the best time to visit Shimla. Consider postponing your trip to October.

Change your two-day trek to begin from Sarahan instead of Shimla.
Sarahan was the summer capital of the Rampur Bushahr Raajahs and has the famous Bhimakaali Temple. A much quieter place to stay rather than overcrowded Shimla. It is a six hour road journey from Shimla. At Sarahan, stay inside the Bhimakaali temple guest house. Just walk up to a forest rest house at Ponda and return the next day. If you take a local guide you can even venture into the thick forest above Sarahan. As SHIMLA has warned, be prepared for heavy rain.
