Mountain is calling!! Dare to Challange .
|
Hi All,
We were planning for Satopanth Tal trek in June 2008 first or second week. Gathered some info. from books and blogs and threads, also collected pictures. Now my queries are: 1. Can we stay in Mana in spite of Badrinath? 2. Is June first/second week is a good time for this trek? 3. How tough and risky is this trek? 4. Is there any faster way to reach Badrinath than Hrishikesh - Srinagar - Badrinath? 5. Porter & Guide - Rate / Availability / Any contact? please suggest. Thanks in advance. |

Mana wud have only basic accommodation.
If you are coming from the east, u can save some time and distance by: a) taking the 3009 Doon Express from Howrah to Kotdwara. That's if u don't mind waiting the 2.5 hour wait at Najibabad. b) Taking any train from Cal that passes thru Najibabad, and get off there. From Kotdwara, u will get a bus or jeep that will take u to Pauri/Shrinagar. Either direct, or change at Pauri. From Pauri u might even get transport that will take u to Joshimath during the season. From Shrinagar, u will get transport taking u to Joshimath, maybe Badrinath also. If u get off at Najibabad, u may get something direct to Pauri, otherwise take the first vehicle to Kotdwara. |

If u arrive early morning at Najibabad or Kotdwara, it will certainly not take longer than via Haridwar/Rishikesh to get to Joshimath. Of course the problem there is the one-way system; so long as u are able to leave J'math between 4.30-5 pm, u'll get to Badrinath. Obviously this bit has to be dealt with at very short notice, regardless of route.

First gate 6.30 am, last gate 4.30 pm. Every 2.5 hours in between. Same times for both directions.

We got some extra day in hand. So now we are starting on 6th June and returning 22nd June. Thinking of adding VoF with Satopanth Tal. Made a rough itinerary -

1. Days 12 & 13 are too tight. Spread them over 3 days. U won't even have to change your train date.
2. Not as many as in July or August. |

Go to Suraj Kund and Som Kund and upto Swargorohini. Most guides may/maynot know the way to Suraj Kund and Som Kund. According to the size of the Moon (Som)there will be water in the Somkund. Full moon full Amavashya no water Interesting isint it. Have to register at Mana with the ITBP. Amitava343 |

No Problem you just have to enter your names with them and those of your guides, better take Identity cards with you (always)just in case they don't ask these.
As far as I know it will be just another extra day at the Tal. You have to go over hudge bolders most guide would simply discourage you. These tals are just beyond the original Satopanth tal, vist them be back at Satopanth the same day andstart back the next day. |
