Satopanth Tal Trek
Hi,
I with another friend of mine are thinking about trekking to Sathopath tal in the first week of June. We start from Delhi on 1 Night and plan to come back by 10 evening. I've some basic questions. 1. Do i need to arrange for some permit, if yes then where and how should i get it? 2. Where can i find a suitable guide/porter? Can someone give me contact numbers of guides etc. 3. What are all the necessary things that i should keep with me for this trek? thanks Aditya |

Sathopath or Satopanth?
The spelling is unfamiliar - do u mean Satopanth Tal, not far from Badrinath? If yes:
1. I don't think it's in a Restricted Area, so u won't need a permit. But to be doubly safe, check with the SDM's office in Joshimath on the way. (Maybe someone who's been there can throw some light?) 2. U shud be able to get porters at Badrinath or Mana. Since it's the high season, this shud not be a problem. 3. This one is for trekkers to answer - c'mon, help the man! |

I meant Sathopath tal itself, which is 25Km from Mana. A few more questions:
1. Can i get food and other provisions at Mana/Badrinath itself or do i need to carry it from here? 2. Is there any place in delhi where i can get tents on rent? Or can i get it also at Mana/Badrinath? thanks Aditya |

1. Depends what u want to carry. Badrinath shud be ok but might be a bit expensive. I suggest u spend some time in Joshimath and stock up, u shud get all u need there. 2. Not sure about Mana/Badrinath, but Joshimath shud be ok. Delhi, yes, but I can't tell u exactly where. Try searching the Terkking and Mountaineering section. (How come all the experts are quiet just when someone needs them?) ![]() |

adityar, dilliwala,
This is to bring to your notice that there is a search option in the main menu of Indiamike home page. Before you post a question, kindly search. In case you don't find the required information, pl. do post your problem. And memebers will be glad to help you out. for satopanth tal trekking just see this page: Niti, Mana and Darma Valley - photos and info and follow the links to other pages, you will get the details about the guide, his phone numbers, the terrain, trek photos and most of what you wanted. So have patience and do your homework. happy trekking |

hi,
I just uploaded the pics and put up some descriptions. The ordering was not at all planned. Even i felt that a good camera might have done better justice to the pics. On the other hand a good camera like an SLR would have required its own bag etc and i was in no mood to carry anthing extra. The pics anyway can't capture the beauty, you have to be there to experience it. thanks for the comments. I'll put another post describing the full trip including cost etc. -aditya |

Hi,
I agree you have to be there to feel the place. Carrying load is big problem and then taking pics in the cold . Your pics are good and don't think much. If you get time add comments to the pics if possible and put up a small writeup for everyones benefit. |
