satopanth tal in may 1st week

Hi,

I am planning to a short trek to Satopnath tal in may first week..
Does that looks like a right time to visit there??
I am keeping 4 days ex-Badrinath for this trek. Is it too aggressively timed??

Do you know any local contact in that area who can guide me to Satopnath and arrange for the trek?

In May first week Badrianth Temple will be opening. The best time to Visit Satopnat lake is End of May and June and again September till Mid October.

Its only 4 days trek through huge laxmi van and little bit boldering area, the lake is so beautiful and you can find a Moni Baba there, who live round the year. He never talk, i met him in my last year trip, i did it in July, it was real challenge to me, during heavy rainfall and landslide, but we enjoy it.

The guide is must its not so easy trek, we took the services from the guy Sanjay who live in Joshimath near by village, they all are young guys who work on eco treks and keen to promote new treks in Garhwal Himalayas.

You can contact them in joshimath, they can arrange all things, such as gear or foods transport etc..

We were 3 guy from Canada and one myself, book a trip with them in joshimath, we were doing this trek self, but there is some stic rules and regulation, a guide is must and without involeving local agents we can trek any area in Joshimath, so with there help we took permits guide porters etc.. and did this sucessfull trek.

I have there email adress you can contact them at garhwaltours@yahoo.co.in

they all run a travel company Adventure Trekking Pvt.Ltd

They can provide you more details on it....

You trek a lot ? what you do mainely ? let me know is you do any treks in Ladakh ? I would join it ?

Friend enjoy the journey to beautifull lake Satopanth

Best Wishes

4days ex badri is not to aggressively timed but its may first week that I feel will give u some trouble. try to make it 3 weeks later.

porters are available at joshimath ( & badrinath...i read but i am not sure). while going to badri stay for one night at joshimath and hire the porter.

better to extend the jeep ride to mana just to conserve some energy.

1. You have to have INNER LINE PERMIT for MANA.
2. You can get HAP at Joshimath
3. May first week may NOT BE good for this trail.

HIMADVENTURES. inner line permit is not needed for Mana. Going above Mana, is Mausapani where you can stay in chinese war era army bunker and above is gustoli where there is the BSF station.

from gustoli one turns to Arwatal area on Kalindikhal route and several BSF routes point to Tibet side where there are various lakes

The other route from Mana turns thru Bhim pul to Vasundara falls and from there is swargarohini range.

From Mausapani there are several Army made paths to Valley of flowers.

I know you are a senior member , i typed above from my limited knowledge. sorry for any errors.

No..no..you are right. These INNER LINES are not being controlled by any ONE agency and I still could not understand who controls them and why someone DO NOT inform poor travellers.

KINNER KALIASH CIRCUIT: besides my more than 10 years of trekking in this area-i was never told about INNER LINE. They always use to write in some register about name and address of people and let go.
All of a sudden-INDIAN CITIZENS were being sent back from middle of the trek.
When I reached there along with 2 friends-I was told at THANGI that I have to get one PERMIT from RECONG PEO.
NO EXPLAINATAIONS..i talked with SDM and Deputy Commissioner of PEO about it. They were so angry that they sent police force to talk with that officer. We all came to know that this was decided in some high level meeting and it was verbal orders to officer......to start gettin permit !!

About MANA-you could be right as someone faces the problem...without any visible reason. You could be right !!

For Mana and beyond upto Vasudhara falls no inner line permit is required. LAst year, I have seen a notice board in Mana village that sys trekkers are allowed upto Vasudhara falls without a permit. And I trekked without it. For Vasudhara falls and Arwatal, permit is a must. COntact SDM's office in Joshimath for more details. LAst year on 15th May there was snow fall in Badrinath. This year so far there is leess snow fall. And now in this month , some upper reaches of Himalaya are receiving snow fall. Postpone your trek for 2 or 3 weeks if possible. And expect the pilgrim rush in Badrinath bythat time . But beyond Mana not many will venture. It will all be quiet and peaceful.
