Sankri to Har-Ki-Dun to Sankri in 49 hours

Crazy I know but I had to do it. I had a 4 day holiday from my teaching job in Mussoorie so I thought I would go check out Har-Ki-Dun. People said it would be tight but I might be able to do it in 4 days. I thought what the heck. So I loaded up the bike on Friday and headed out that afternoon. Overnighted in Naugon, then off to Sankri Sat. morning arriving about noon. Everyone said no way, you need at least 5 days to do it. But I came all that way to see Har-Ki-Dun, I would not be denied. I finally found a guide, Raju, who would take me. By the way, if you go to Har-Ki-Dun look for Raju, he is THE MAN. Speaks good english, knows everyone in that valley, can take you as fast or as slow as you want. Ask for him in Sankri, if he is there they will find him. Anyway, left about 1:00ish and hiked 24km to Gaurgon that night. The next morning hiked the 16km to HKD. Once there we had a decision to make. Camp at HKD and hike out 42 km the next day or go down to either Seema or Gaurgon. We opted to go to Gaurgon to stay with Raju's family again, 32km in total half uphill. Needless to say I was whooped. The 24 km hike to Sankri the next moring was relatively simple. I know, not the way most people would choose to do HKD but sometimes a man has to do what he has to do. The sights were wonderful, but I would have to say the best part was staying in the homes of these amazing Garwhali people, they are truly beautiful people.

Wow, that is one rushed trip, specially considering you were in Mussorie already!
