Hi Ichtar
As I know this trek is technical at places near the pass. It's an unexplored trek. Great India Outdoors organise this trek. Mr Bhaskar is the man to contact. He told me in case Lamkhaga is unpassable an alternate trail to Har-ki-doon exits via Barasu pass. Explore both possibilities. Good luck Lucky |

I don't know if this helps, but I met one local in the Sangla Valley who'd twice summited Everest - if he is a guide, and I think he is, he'd be a good one to employ.

Guides
You can find good guides in Sangla.. but not sure about Lamkhaga Pass. They can certainly guide you over Borasu pass.
These locals are familar with the Borasu pass..they marry people on the Har ki Dun Valley.. they cross over the Borasu pass to meet their relatives on the other side of the pass in uttaranchal.. JP |

Hi ichtar,
in my opinion, it's not allowed for foreigners to cross Chhotkhaga/Lamkhaga or Borassu La without Permits! Perhaps, for the Borassu La it's easyer to get all permissions. But for Chhotkaga do you need Permit and the full support from Indian Mountaineering Foundation http://www.indmount.org/imfinnerline.html Do you have other informations? - Let me know... I found this website, but have no experience with this agency: http://www.adventurehills.com/trekki...-in-india.html Greetings AndreasW ![]() Borasu Pass seen at Charang Pass; Foto: www.andreas-wagner-audiovision.de |

Andreas,
It seem's that you already been there, did you use local guide or it was possible to manage to do it by yourself using only maps (if you use some can you tell me which one ?) thank you for the link concerning the inner line permit, I think I'll change my plane and will cross borasu or pass more to the west, but I cannot read the name of them on the crappy map I found on the web ... |

Jyoti is correct. Locals use Borasu Pass to visit families on either side. Chotkhaga, Lamkhaga is rarely used. Even if your guide has crossed the Pass... it is not easy to remember the route. Lots of glacier moraine. I saw a slide show last year by Harish Kapadia (veteran Indian trekker and writer) and even he had a tough time finding the route.
To my mind, Harish has not written about it on-line else i'd have given you the link. The inner line permit is definitely required for foriegners. All the best!!!

My last trekking was the Kinner Kailash Circuit. Lock pictures in this German "Trekkingforum": http://trekkingforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2436 But you are right, I like Himachal... How comes this itinarary in your mind? - Borasu La lies also to "Restricted areas"! The first "free" pass for foreigners to the west is in my opinion the difficult "Kimilea La" (5200m) to Supin Valley! An occasionnally used trekking leads from Sangla over the Rupin Pass (4750m) to the Rupin Valley in the Dodra Kwar region to Naritwar, further the Tons Valley upwards till Ruinsara Lake and over Jamunotri (Bali Pass) - Dodi Tal to the Bhagirathi Valley (Harsil - Gangotri). - That's for me also a favourite itinerary in the future... The best map is "GARHWAL-HIMALAYA-WEST"... http://www.alpineresearch.ch/alpine/shop.html ...and the "Bible" of this little-known place is "Exploring Kinnaur & Spiti in the Trans-Himalaya" written by Deepak Sanan & Dhanu Swadi. In this book are all these passes describted. ![]() Maybe, you get it in Switzerland here: http://www.pizbube.ch/cont_user/index.cfm Greetings AndreasW Last edited by AndreasW : Apr 20th, 2005 at 23:37. |

How this itinirary come in my mind .
It's simple, we planned to spend some time in Ladakh and Zanskar then we would like to go to gangotri region. I was just checking how to come ladakh to there by crossing the mountains. For the final intinerary I think we will follow rupin pass and Yamunotri as they doesn't require permit. |

I cant see how yamunotri and rupin pass come together in the same iterinary.. Do u plan to trek over Yamunotri pass/Bali pass to Har ki Dun and then descend towards the roadhead to take the trek to Rupin Pass??
