Maneybhanjan -->Sandakphu--> Pahlut-->Gorkey--> Rimbim is atleast a 6 days trek. Adding to it the travellling time to & from NJP will add atleast 2 more days. Hence you'll hv to change the itenary.

In december pahlut will be real chilly & windy buddy. For more details pls look at threads started by `alokeban' & by me in this forum.

yeah...thanks a lot buddy...we've got that...so there is a change in plan...
Maneybhanjan->Tonglu->Kalpokhri->shrikhola->Rimbk

1st we thought in day 1 we wud try to reach Gairibas,so that we can get an extra day to spend at Sandhakphu...but may b some of us won't make it in a day...but still we wud try...I have another qu,wud we reach Rimbik directly from Sandhakphu in a one shot?...otherwise in the next day we wud get up early to reach RIMBIK then to catch a bus upto Darjeeling...

can u inform booking is necessary or not in this season?may b 7/8person in our group...

is there any jeep we can hire from Rimbik or Shrikhola upto Darjeeling or if possible upto NJP?

U can make Sandakphu to Rimbick in one day but will be a bit tedious.U will get jeep from Rimbick (or Manebhanjan) to Darjeeling or NJP.

Booking other than Phalut is not necessary as many private lodges/homes are available other than the trekkers' hut. I can give u arecent update at the end of nov. as we'r expected to return from the trek on 25.11 morn.

NB: Pls avoid SMS type text or the moderator may intervene.

Snow in Phalut

Last year I celebrated the new year at torephulebhanjan and the 2nd on phalut, I was on my way down from singalila. Temp was as below as -12C, frozen hard ice with very shallow toppings of snow was every where. Weather was clear but occasional heavy mist was reducing vision to a few feet. Terrain was rough, less greenery, frozen mud. We had a problem of making fire due to wet wood.

I hope none comes in your way, but nevertheless you are going to enjoy it afterwards .

Hi,

I'm planning to trek sandakphu phalut in the chirstmass week. I'll be travelling alone. ( of course with a guide/porter). My itinerary is as follows:

Day 1 25th Dec NJP - Darjeeling - Maneybhanjan

Day 2 26th Dec Maneybhanjan - Tonglu

Day 3 27th Dec Tonglu - Kalipokhari

Day 4 28th Dec Kalipokhari - Sandakphu

Day 5 29th Dec Sandakphu stay

Day 6 30th Dec Sandakphu - Phalut

Day 7 31st Dec Phalut - Gorkhey Khola - Samandin- Ramam

Day 8 1st Jan Ramam - Rimbik

Day 9 2nd Jan Rimbik - Darjeeling

Day 10 3rd Jan Darjeeling - NJP

Can anyone suggest me the type of sleeping bag and jacket/winsheeter I need to carry ?

Are wollen gloves sufficient or I need to buy a leather one ?

Do I need to book the trekkers' hut in advance?

Any other essential tips to carry out the trek in winter.

You need a good down sleeping bag which can handle atleast extreme -15 deg Approx Rs. 4,000 available at Avi Indst.

Buy a nylon waterproof gloves with fleece inner in it.. I bought a North Face glove at Rs. 700 last week from Avi Indst.

U dont need to book accomodation in advance as the winter might seem off-season. Also YHAI trek to Sandakphu gets over early december. So I dont seem any problem. There are many private lodges and huts available.

Stay at Srikhola...
Be prepared for the extreme wind blow at phalut...
Hollow-fill jacket are best, if can manage...

Booking huts is always a good idea cuz caretakers sometimes locks hut and go down in the villages if there isn't any booking for the day, mind the tourist will be very less during that time...

I called up at the kolkata office of DGHC. They told me the trekkers' hut at sandakphu and phalut are closed for repairing, might get opened after some days. I need to enquire again in the first week of november.

talked with Mr. Gyan @ DGHC, Darjeeling (9434247927). The trekkers' hut is under repair but it is expected to be open by mid Nov. But the info should be confimred before u start or else tent is to be carried for Phalut. Alternative staying arrangement is not a prob. for other places in the trek.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where can I get good jackets in bangalore (preferably feather). I tried Fourm, Central, Lifestyle. All of them sell light jackets only.
