Sandakphu and Phalut in January

Hello,

Me and my husband are planning a trek in last week of January. I am a bit skeptical on the weather condition.

• Firstly is the trek doable in that period?

• Will there be lot of snow ?

• What kind of temperature is expected ?

My rough itinerary for the trek is

20th Jan: Mumbai - Bagdogra- Manebhanjan
21st Jan: Manebhanjan - Tumling
22nd Jan: Tumbling - Kalapokri
23rd Jan: Kalapokri - Sandakphu
24th Jan: Sandakphu- Phalut
25th Jan: Phalut - Gorkhey
26th Jan: Gorkhey - Rimbik
27th Jan: Rimbik - NJP - Kolkatta

Questions:

• 26th Jan: Gorkhey - Rimbik how tough would this route be ? because most of the itineraries suggest taking halt at Ramnam.

• 24th Jan: Sandakphu- Phalut is 21 kms, is it easy ?

• Are Jeeps available for Manebhanjan from bagdogra.

• Any idea about the expenses of portors and accomodation ?

I was in Sandakphu on 6th January some years ago. It was dry, cold and clear no snow. The night temperatures were about -6 to -8 C during the day the sun was up and it must have been between 8 to 10 C.

You need to have a very warm sleeping bag for the nights and good equipment for the cold.
