Not in June but in July

Uttam did the trek in June this year in very deep snow and says that one should not go before the 1st week of July.If you are a mountaineer.... with all your equipment, you can certainly do it... a regular trekker will find it daunting.

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
Hi Everyone
I have not logged on for sometime but I am back with my usual questions.
We plan to do Rupin Pass in mid-June this year. Uttam did it last year and it was ok. However, getting much info on Rupin Pass seems to be difficult.
Could anyone who has done this share their trek experience? Especially on scenic views? altitude gain per day? avaibility of porters and guides? Places to camp?

Hi Arjun,
How r u, after a long time. As far I know mid June or Sept-mid Oct will be good time for this trek. The trek starts from Dhula (the last point connected through motorable road) and ends in Sangla. Max altitude is 4630m. The most difficult part of this trek is Saruas Thach to Nuru via Rupin Pass (4630 m), coz. this day u have to cover around 12 km and 3450m -> 4630m -> 3600m altitude. Total trek needs around 11 days.

Hi Supratim
Thanks for the info. You seem to be growing in your knowledge of the mountains every new day!
Now, do you know anyone personally who has done the Rupin Pass trek? Any contact numbers would help.

Hi HimalayaoneWe did the Rupin Pass trek in June 2008. I must admit it was one of our best treks.
First, rule out 10 April. You are too early for Rupin. Unless you have some knowledge about mountain and snow craft, you won't be able to make a crossing (even though the snows have been less). Mid May would be a better time.
Next, the Rupin Pass cross from the Sangla side is difficult. It involves big height gains in a span of two days -- and having come down the Sangla side I know how tiring it can get climbing up. Think of doing it from the Naitwar--Dhaula side. It is more enjoyable and the views excellent. Frankly, the Sangla side is good, but climbing up the Rupin Valley is something else.

Hi Arjunm,
Thanks for the info, how far would be Rupin Pass from Naitwar & Sangla.

Hi Himalayaone
Well, you can't really measure hills by distance can you? From Naitwar you need to take a Jeep to Dhaula -- that's your last road head. From Dhaula it is a 4-5 days trek to Rupin Pass, depending on whether you make any halts for acclimatisation. The meadows just before you cross over are beautiful -- you can spend an entire day.
