Hi Guys,

I have plan to do Rupin Pass in last week of Apr'17 (22nd April -sat). I lives in Bangalore and i will be reaching deharadun on 22nd April and have plan to start for Dhaula on 23rd April or on 22nd itself. I'm a seasoned trekker and mostly go solo. I did Pin Parvati Pass in Sept'16. For that trek as well i posted and looked for partners on India Mike. This is a great forum as i found 3 awesome partners here for pin parvati and we did the same in sept'16. I'm sure, m goona be lucky again and will find some amazing partners here.

Also, request you guys to share the no of guide or porter so can negotiate and share the cost structure. Though i'm sharing the probable cost cost below which should be on the max side and actual should be lesser only.

Plan:

1) Probably we will be the first to start Rupin Pass in year 2017. Thrilling....yeah.
2) Need to finalize Guide and he will help in getting Porter.
3) Two of my trek partners of Pin Parvati says yes for Rupin and based at delhi only. Hence there is room for 2-3 more people.
4) Against 5 people there will be 4-5 porter max or less Plus one guide. Since there will be no trek trails in April, also weather may surprise anytime, we are looking a good guide.
5) Costing, basis Pin Parvati, below is the approx cal for 5 people.

Porter - (600 per day) * no of days + bus fare + tip = 6000. so for 5 porters (max) = 30000 Rs

Guide = (1200 Per day) * no of days + bus fare + Tip = 12000 (max)

Other Expenses = Ration + Utensils etc on rent + Local fare = 10000

Total = 52000. Per person = 10500 Rs.

During Pin Parvati, we hired a guide cum porter and he charged 900 per day only. But first that time we were just lucky to find someone like this and second this time considering weather and no trail marks, we looking for specialized guide.

Itinerary - Though Its flexible in terms how we wanna cover the trek.

22-04-17 - Day 1 - Reach Deharadun and shop for ration etc and other arrangement
23-04-17 - Day 2 - Deharadun to Dhaula
24-04-17 - Day 3 - Dhaula 5,100 ft to Sewa 6,150 ft (11km)
25-04-17 - Day 4 - Sewa 6,150 ft to Jhaka 8,700 ft (9km)
26-04-17 - Day 5 - Jhaka 8,700 ft to Saruwas thatch 10,250 ft (6km)
27-04-17 - Day 6 - Saruwas thatch 10,250 ft to Dhanderas thatch 11,680 ft (lower water fall camp) (6km)
28-04-17 - Day 7 - Dhanderas thatch 11,680 ft to Upper Waterfall camp 13,300 ft. (3km)
29-04-17 - Day 8 - Upper Waterfall 13,120 ft to Rupin Pass 15,250 ft to Ronti Gad 13,420 ft (12km)
30-04-17 - Day 9 - Ronti Gad 13,420 ft to Sangla 8,800 ft. Overnight bus journey to Shimla. (12km)
01-05-17 - Day 10 - Shimla to Delhi

Hi,
Atul Mangal

We are going to rupin pass in 3rd week of may and I think 22.4.17 is too early for rupin Pass. As this year is very snowfall at this area

Hi dip0404,

Appreciate your reply. I have checked your post as well of doing rupin in may. I cant deviate the plan because of certain time boundations. Read few post where people did it in 2 week of april so m hoping and gathering all the info i can. Lets what plans that nature has in its kitty for my timeline. Also after pin parvati, looking for something equally challeging and i believe rupin in early side goona be really challenging.

Hi Shashank,

The treks you have mentioned, seems to me good enough to do rupin. I mean you did srikhand, where there is a steep altitude gain to 5000 mtr i guess. So far what i read about rupin, there is no vast altitude gain in single day, except just 1-2 day. But on those days as well, the distance to be covered is not much. You have experienced high altitude and ams, i think you can do it. I believe the intent has to be really meaninful to climb, because then you will not loose patience and calm.
Just thought through it and surf youself and decide. In april as i mentioned and dip0404 also added challeges gonna be many. One is too much cold, too much snow, no trail marks may let us walk more and yes we travel with minimum things like we dont carry any satellite ph or oxygen or stretcher etc and each one will be carrying i guess atleast 15kg. Also if you decide to join, its mandatory to have some gears that we are still in process to finalize, but one of them is micro spikes and gaiters. I had gaiters but havent had spikes during pin parvati, though there was 3 hr stretch in snow but that was sept. In april for rupin, considering heavy snow fall this year, it will be needed so im buying one. Decide through and you are most welcome brother.

Cost Structure - Rupin Pass

Hi Guys,

Below will be the cost structure for Rupin Pass.

Guide: 1000 (per Day) * 8 Days = 8000
Porter: 650 (Per Day) * 4 (4 porter for 4 people) * 8 = 20800
Total Ration = 3000 (Approx including kerosene)
Rent cost of utensils and kitchen tent = 500 (per day) * 8 = 4000
Porter and guide return to dhaula cost = 500*5 = 2500

Total = 38300 ( for four people)

Per Person cost = 38300 / 4 = 9575 Rs plus approx 500-1000 Rs cost to reach dhaula
