Please reply.
Yes , you need good trekking shoes depending on the time of the Trek. In Sep-Oct you may not require trekking shoes but April-May you must have a good shoe.
If you want to buy any trekking shoes please make sure that your shoes is Gaiter enable.
Thank & Regard

Guys, if any of you ever need a guide, I would recommend Inder Singh. His contact number is 8979566842 and lives in Loharjung. We had a great experience with him during our Roopkund trek last September. Inder is honest, upright and very very resourceful.

I hope I am not violating the forum rules. I'm just trying to help an honest guide who is not aware how to connect to the outside world.

As per itinerary, I will be reaching Kathgodam railway station at 6.00 am (from delhi) and have to catch shared taxi from the station itself. Does this station has toilet facility to freshen up ?.. Is it clean ?

I'm planning on taking up a trek to Bedni sometime next month. I read somewhere that Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra which is held every 12 years will take place in 2012. Can someone please confirm if the yatra is over already? Getting stuck in a traffic jam in the Himalayas is the last thing I want

Thanks.

Successfully completed roopkund trek July 9th to July 15th

Hi friends
It was indeed a gr8 experience and satisfaction that I have completed Roopkund trek successfully.

My friend and myself did the trek.

Mahaveer Singh who stays at Mundoli village was our porter i.e with mule (khachchar). Ph: 09012486760
Dhan Singh our Guide. Ph: 08941876449

Can contact them for ur needs. They are localites very informative and friendly. Cant forget the taste of kichadi they used to cook.

Here is an attempt to write my experience and posting some of the snaps

Old Delhi railways station from where we boarded Ranikhet express to depart at 22.40 and reached the terminating station “Kathgodham” early morning 6 ‘O’ clock of 8th July.

8th July 2012
After break up of initial rounds of dialogues with some taxi drivers we were able to negotiate a fair price to reach Bijnath which lies on the way to Loharjung. On the initial part of the journey the sudden change in linear motion to more of rapid circular motion made our physical and mental body, difficult to get adjusted. Without wasting much time at Bijnath we hopped to another jeep to reach Gwaldam around mid afternoon. “Uttarakhand Transport Corporation” operates bus service from Delhi to Loharjung. It departs Delhi at 20.00 pm and reaches Loharjung at 17.00 pm the next day. We were lucky enough to find that bus at Gwaldam on its way to Loharjung. Due to landslides big vehicles were not plying to Loharjung from Dewal on that day.
So with no other way we got down at Dewal to find a jeep waiting exclusively for us to reach Loharjung successfully at 17.30.
Total for two of us: Rs.1250/-

Successfully completed roopkund trek July 9th to July 15th

9th July 2012 (Loharjung – Didna)

The initial part of the trail was well laid out flat narrow road that expands from Loharjung to Wan village. We deviated at Kuling village to find steep sloping narrow village paths that led us to small Roaring River. After recharging ourselves with clear water we started to climb up the mountain that stood on the other side of the river. The climb was very steep and exhausting. All the efforts and the sweat that we had shed were worth to reach yet another small village Didna that lies at an altitude, same as Loharjung but on the neighbouring mountain. The home stay at Didna village has all basic facilities except power supply. The entire day we spent lazing around home stay waiting for the last rays of sun to disappear. Melodious rain was an added comfort to sound sleep.
