Junar Gali (Zoravar Galli) & Stay & Roopkund..
Last Year, we made unsuccessful attempt to cross Junar Galli in Early Oct, du to unexpected heavy snow-fall, but the to best of information available, one would need ropes to cross it. Without ropes, Junar (In English is "Valley Of Death").
No, there is no place to stay at Roopkund. You can stay at Bhagubasha, and then visit roopkund, and come back to Bhagubhasha.. or Cross Junar Gali after roopkund. |

Thanks, Tarun. About camping at roopkund, my point was whether setting up a tent on the banks of the lake was a possibility, or whether rock-fall / storms make this a tricky proposition. I was not referring to fixed camps, if that's what it sounded like.

ronsaik,
It's very risky to stay at Roopkund due to uncertain weather situation, and it's open from all sides, so very wild winds are expected. On top of that there is no good water availability at roopkund. |

Hi Ronsaik
A quick reply to your questions. First, the imposing ridge of Junar gali is not really that imposing when you start climbing it. On top, it isn't a knife's edge. There is a comfortable space on either side of the ridge to walk/sit/chat. But you can't camp there. Either you have to get down on the left side to Roopkund, or get down on the right side to Sila Samudra. Camping on the banks of Roopkund isn't a possibility. The slope is too steep to set up a tent. Here is a picture of Roopkund taken from an angle you will rarely see -- but will give you a good idea of what you are likely to get when you go there. Go ahead and drool! Arjun |

. The shade on the lake gives it a different perspective which I liked. I suggest that you consider including this picture in your blog at appropriate place . Sadanand

That's ice. You could have a game of ice hockey on that surface and not even scratch it. SK, thanks for the compliments. I've just uploaded the blog with fresh new pictures and few changes to contact details. Take a look. Arjun |

Hi Solo_trekker
We were 10 of us. Only 5 of us could go up to Roopkund and Junargali. The rest stayed back at Bhagwabasa. Fitness is important as well as acclimatisation. Don't neglect these facts on treks like this. Arjun |

Thanks for the additional info, Arjun and KS. By any chance would you also be having the contact of any independent guide for Roopkund?

Might have missed it. However, it so happens that I came across a list of contacts on Almoraboy's blog, so that matter's settled. Thanks. |
