Hi Arjun.
Good write up and needed info about support of guides and drivers. I have an intention to conquer Roopkund next year. Will write to you more when I plan it.. Only Q is Sept - Oct a good time to see Roopkund - Homkund - Shielasamudra. I have heard quite a few treks get abandon due to bad weather but still ppl say the best time is Sept as the views keep trekkers blooming.. |

Arjun,
I must congratulate you for your excellent blog on Rupkund trek. I am sure that the pictures accompanying the blog will have an mesmerising effect on those who love trekking. In fact, I feel like going right now to Kulling village and Bedni Bugiyal. Thanks, Sadanand

Hi Arjun,
A wonderful travelogue and stunning pics. People have always discussed Roopkund in hushed voices...especially since mummified bodies/skeletons were found buries in the snow long ago....glad u have covered that point in your blog. You have a done a magnificent job highlighting the beauty of this place! Cheers mate! P.S > Could u add some info about the camping gear u took along on the trek? Tnx! Thanks everyone for the warm thoughts on the blog. I would be happy if the information would help everyone to trek around those parts. I don't know if you noticed, but I haven't finished it yet. Hope to do so sometime soon...
Meanwhile, Micheal, we took the standard gear with us. Tents, sleeping bags, warm clothes, good shoes, one Kitchen tent for cooking and for the guide and porters to stay. However, our secret weapon was an ice-axe. Without that I don't think we could do the trek. We were the first ones to step into Roopkund last season, and the ice-axe came handy in cutting steps. No big deal rocket science, but this little foresight changed the whole trek. About the season: June is anytime more preferable than October for trekking. It is a whole lot greener in June. In October the slopes turn brown and half the fun is lost in seeing Bedni and Ali Bugyal in all its splendor. Arjun |
