3. Entire journey takes 12 to 15 hours, starts at 5 AM from Rishikesh and reaches Lohajung by 6'ish in the evening.

4. Fare which I paid a few years ago was around 250 INR - though do not remember the exact value. Pretty inexpensive and light on pocket, but the ride in the bus is an event in itself! You will know when you take the ride

We went there September 2nd week, 8th September at Baguabasa. Weather was clear in the morning but cloudy at afternoon. We didn't face any rain. But the guide/ porter's said they face non stop rain throughout the last week. From Sutol we try Saptakund but continues two days rain forced us to back from Pantharkuri.
Good luck.

Yes ,this is indeed good. You can take the taxi from Rishikesh in early morning at 3 am -4 am.This taxis provide newspaper UpTo rudraprayag ,from here you can take shared taxi UpTo karnaprayag .At around 10 am there is direct bus from karnaprayag to wan village ,which would drop you wan at 4:30pm.
You can trek UpTo gharoli patal straight away ,it would take 2:30 hrs ,if you feel comfortable.

One more information if you require.
You don't need any guide for this ,as the path is well trodden. Secondly you would get Forest hut available easily everywhere in the trek .Just take the sleeping bag and mattresses from Lohagunj ,the bus will stop there for sometime and right there is a shop providing renting stuff . I did this on 5 September 2016 , we were only two people through out the trek ,and met only one group of 5 persons retreating back from lake .
Food would be available easily at bedini ,bhagwabhasa.
I did the whole trek in mere 2500 including everything from my hometown to hometown

Hi Shashank,
Three of my friends and I are planning to do Roopkund from 28th May. We are new to trekking and have done only basic treks like Triund. We were planning to do the trek on our own to have a true feeling of adventure and solace. However, many people are suggesting that there would be too much ice in May end, hence we need to hire a guide. Can you throw more light as to when you made the trek and what was the availability of food at Bhagwabasa. Thanks.

Hi Dilliwala,
Is it possible for beginners to do the Roopkund trek on their own in last week of May. We are four friends starting the trek from Kathgodam on 28th May. We are very much intent on doing this on our own but possibility of a lot of snow after Bhagwabasa is compelling us to think about hiring a guide. What is your opinion?

Never been.

Definitely hire a guide, you don't want to be stuck in snow without one.
