Three of my friend and myslef planned to go for a trekking to Roopkund(16500 ft)and Jiunara gali pass(17500 ft)at the mid of September.At the priliminary stage we decide to visit Roopkund, the mystery lake and try to cross the Jiunara gali pass. Finally at the end of the tour we can able to reach Ronti saddle(19500 ft). The excellent weather condition, Very good cooperative guide and porter,our good health condition and overall the fantastic team spirit helps the team members to reach the heavenly Ronti saddle.

Ronti at 19500 feets??
I wonder why most of the trekkers (Mainly trekkers from Bengal in this case of Ronti) try to exaggerate the height and the dificulty level. I was there 2 weeks back and in no case Ronti is higher than 5500m which should be around 17500 - 18000 feets.

Someone had told me that Junar gali is around 300m above Roopkund and is at 5300m. I found that Junargali is at max 150m above Roopkund. Our team took just half an hour to climb Junargali from Rookund. The height of Junargali in no case be more than 5000m.

Ronti is a pretty decent and gradual climb from Homkund. Not more than 300m higher than Homkund. We couldn't beleive that the place was Ronti Saddle and actually went much higher towards Ronti-I. I have read blogs claiming 80 degree incline for Ronti and how someone slipped in Ronti and arrested himslef with an ice axe. Such a information is completely misleading.

Ronti is more of a hype. You wont even realise that the place is Ronti saddle until your guides tell you so. I found even the climb to Pin parvati pass more difficult than climbing(???) Ronti. There was a group from calcutta whom we met at Silasamudra campsite. They had attempted Ronti thrice in past unsuccessfully. So, thsi year, they started from Sutol, did Ronti first and then headed back towards roopkund. But when we went to Ronti just 2 days after them, we didnt find any footmarks on the top. Probabaly they climbed some 250m from Homkund and returned just as the snow patch started.

I completely agree with Jyoti, people tries to make a moderate trek more high graded to prove that what they have done was terrible event to do. Most likely in case of snow, most trekkers don't use proper shoe and equipment and blames the snow condition where as some trekkers completes the same trail with 1 feet snow.

Also wondering would it be wise to purchase two train tickets one from Rishikesh - Delhi & other Kathgodam - Delhi. We can obviously cancel one ticket.Just in case the road gives in and we definately do not want any delay once we reach Sutol.

Hello Supratim,
I have done 5 himalayan treks and the BMC from HMI. I would be interested in this trek, including the ronti saddle part. I'm just trying to work out the dates. I'm from Mumbai, and can join your group directly at Hrishikesh. Can you mail me the details and the expenses at princekk13@gmail.com?
Thanks.

Hi drkshiteesh,

First of all, we are not going through Hrishikesh, train ticket problem , we are going through Haldwani/Kathgodam. Another 2 guys from Bangalore and 1 guy from Ghaziabad joining us at Kathgodam, you can join us there.

The itinerary till Ronti is like:

27th: Kathgodam/Haldwani to Loharjung
28th: Loharjung -> Kulling -> Didna
29th: Didna -> Ali Bugyal -> Bedini Bugyal
30th: Rest and exploration at Bedini Bugyal
1st : Bedini Bugyal -> Pathar Nachuni -> Ghora Lotani -> Kailu Binayak -> Bhaguabasa
2nd: Bhaguabasa -> Huniathar -> Chirinag -> Roopkund -> Shailasamudra
3rd: Shailasamudra -> Gheuthappan -> Dodang
4th: Dodang -> Homkund -> Ronti Saddle -> Dodang
5th: Dodang -> Bhujani -> Latakopri
6th: Latakopri -> Tatradang -> Sutol
7th: Sutol -> Patingdhar -> Sitel -> Ghat
8th: Ghat -> Nandprayag -> Karnprayag -> Gowaldam -> Almora -> Kathgodam/Haldwani

5-6 members from Kolkata, 2 members from Bangalore, 1 member from Ghaziabad are returning back from Roopkund and rest 8-9 members will proceed to Ronti if weather and snow condition permits.

We estimated a rough budget upto Ronti from Kolkata to Kolkata 7500/- including all and 500/- security money. In your case the train journey part may be different.

Tell me if you need any further clarification.
