Thanks devleenas for info..

One thing have you looked for Suraj Kund ?? . I heard its a lake somewhere near Milam Glacier..very few know the route.

Its bad that ITBP guys took the camera ..may be if one plan in Sep they are little flexible. In May its season time and so many trekker flourish the area so they have to be little bit cautioned.

For permit, If one can send their photo and ID proof, some guide can arrange it before hand. That will save a day and you can skip Lilam and head straight to Bugudiyar.

Yes if one has time one should club ND-EBC , require couple of days.

Where are your pics of trek ? and which time frame you went there ?

Ya SurajKund is beyond Milam Glacier but we didnt find the way and moreover you will need equipments to go that far which we didnt carry .
We were fools to submit all our cameras. We saw people carrying their still camera's to the Galcier .
My trek pics are in flicker . Forgot the link and i dont have t access from office .
Will paste the link sometime later . For now pasting four of them here

Strange is the only word which comes to my mind whenever i think of the way ITBP works. I did Milam Glacier NDEB Camp trek in 2006, luckly they did not ask us to submit our cameras with them before we went to the glacier. Such ITBP created problems to trekkers are there in Kinnaur also. At times it appears ITBP makes its own rules independent of other Government agencies. So far i have been lucky with them. Anyway, if photos and report of my trek is of any help to any one, here is the link:-

Tried googling it but didn’t get much help. According to Kushal (the guy) Tibetans buy them at exorbitant prices.
The scientific Latin nomenclature for Kira Grass is Cordyceps.

I have not been to Suraj Kund myself. In September, [less snow] the trail is open and a local guide may be hired. You will still be walking on the glacier and the lateral moraine [rough on boots and ankles] Without rucksacks the trip can be done to Suraj Kund and back in a longish day carrying only food water and raincoat etc.

There are two camping grounds up there marked on the map. You will require full equipment to camp there for a day.

The kira refers to the hindi word for worm which is keeDaa.

The US Army Map series which I downloaded from link given in IM. It shows a "suraj kund glacier" so i assume that the kund ought to be there. The global warming has taken a toll on most of these glaciers and i imagine that reaching suraj kund is not as difficult nowadays as before.

Guys ....check out Google earth with the "Community Layer" on. You would see the approximate location of Suraj Kund near Milam Village. Google Earth...for some reason has photographed Milam Village in High Resolution!!!
