Samjha Karo LOVEMAX not everyone can max it out to your capabilities (no pun or offense intended).
Imagine spending a freezing night in a non air con bus stuck in the middle of nowhere with heavy rains and no food. (not to mention AMS)
Ok so thats an extreme case but one must go prepared physically, mentally, and advice to all take sufficeint food and water just in case.

Just called up Leh Tourism who sent me to Civil Authorities. They said the climate and everything is fine now and tourist are coming to Leh. About roads I talked to the Police Control Room. They said Roads are ok fromManali to Leh. Also, roads from Leh to Pangong and Khardungla are working. Hopefully it will remain the same. Else it would be a great adventure .

Well I have to side with Mani (lovemax), ladakh route sounds tougher then it actually is! I attribute this fact to those who have been there and in an attempt to show that they have done some thing extraordinary hype every thing up. Yes AMS is a nasty thing; roads are a bit broken up, but nothing that a normal person can’t take.

In fact for most travelers going in Cars and Taxis it is not at all an effort, it is just a bumpy ride that’s it! If a cyclist was to say it is a difficulty journey I would agree, but for the rest it’s just a little bit rougher then the normal hill station.

Folks in Leh.. How cold is it now in there ? I checked out the temparature and it was 24 in day and 13 in the night but i know at these places the chillness factor is there. I am reaching Manali on 13th and then Leh on 15th.. How heavy clothes should i get ? I am going for 10 days Delhi - Leh - Delhi...

I totally agree with yogesh that for most travelers going in Cars and Taxis it is not at all an effort, it is just a bumpy ride that’s it! As an example on 17th June I was stranded on the rhotang top with my bike due to a snow storm, it was freezing cold but I could see the passengers on the sumo which was just in front of me were playing cards!!!!
Moreover I personally feel that the road is not as tough as it is projected to be.

Update from Leh

We have just returned to Leh from a 3 days trip to Nubra Valley. The road was OK, there had been a lot of landslides but now everything is fixed.
The weather in Leh is better than few days ago but still it rains sometimes (not heavy rain anyway). Temperature is OK (25 during the day, in Nubra Valley even more).

For what we have been told all the roads are open except the one to TsoMoriri.

For arijitraja: we've seen the snow, but only at the top of KardongLa

Bye

Biker's loop: Delhi-Ladakh-Kashmir-Delhi

Came back from a 13 days Bike trip Delhi/Manali / Leh/ Kargil / Zanskar/ Srinagar/ Jammu / Delhi.
Road from Rohtang Pass to Sarchu is pathetic, therafter increasingly better. After Taglang La it OK, after Upshi its good till Leh.
Leh-Kargil road is OK. Road Kargil into Zanskar pathetic (before Padum), Valley beautiful.
Kargil/ Srinagar beautiful, Road very good but depressing due to military omnipresence, (every 100 metres or so a soldier with gun in full battle equipment - Roadsign: "Caution -you are observed by the enimy"- Oops!). Heavy traffic due to military movement, military presence almost till Jammu.
Newspaper reported heavy rains in Ladakh on 10th August, roads washed away - all after we passed.
Though we were basically "flying through", interisting trip, some spectacular landscape, high altitude and headache, interisting Gompas, but due to road condition, military omnipresence and quite heavy military or supply traffic, it was less enjoyable than Spiti Valley the 2 years before.

Hope this helps....
