no-this is not possible. Because road from joshimath to badrinath opens in time based schedule.

By the time you will reach JOSHIMATH-that GATE TIMING will be over. Please do not try to do this in this way....hurry may cause errors in planning...take two days and travel with ease.

These days monsoons are active-so take care.

Only possible by a private car that too with a long drive starting very early in the morning and crossing the last gate to Badrinath from Joshimath of 4:30 pm.

The gate at Rishikesh for going uphill is not opened before 5AM.
If you manage to reach reach Joshimath by 4 PM, you can go to badrinath when the last gate opens..

This can be done...but instead of driving fast and taking risk..i think staying a night at joshimath is safe and enjoyble option.

Suggest Stay At Joshimath

I too would suggest stay at Joshimath and leave next day morning early for Badari. From Rishikesh by private taxi, seasoned driver, if you start early morning you can reach Joshimath in time to catch the last gate, that would be tedious and you would not really enjoy the scenary. In this season, you have to stop and enjoy the scenary (small water falls all around on the way) rather than hurry through.

Make room for one night at Josihmath and you'd not regret it.

Lightbulb delhi - joshimat minimum time

my intention was to reach Delhi => Joshimat same day.
But Shatabdi reached 1 hour late , @ 12 in Hardwar , took an autorikshaw to Nataraj in Rishikesh , Got a shared jeep immediately on reaching there at 1pm , the jeep could go only up to Rudraprayag.

I was wiser with last year's experience , tipped the driver and reached Karnaprayag @ 8pm , stayed in GMVN ( ie in 7 hours i reached Karnaprayag from Rishikesh ) . @ 6am Took a shared jeep to Chamoli and got into a the news paper jeep to reach Joshimath @ 9am and from Joshimath @ 11am got another news paper jeep to Badrinath and reached Badridham @ 12.30 pm and started the Satopanth - Suraj Kund - Swargarohini trek after acclimitizing for 2 days at Badri and Mana.

I enjoyed the ride very much since the delivery man was regular guy and he knew each and every man on the street right from the policemen on the gates and i was fed with various stories of the social life of Garhwal. that's one of my intentions of travel - to know more about the local population by mingling with them.

BADRI dham is a concrete jungle now, more and more hotels coming up. GMVN is building a 500bed accomodation.

overall , i found , reaching delhi - joshimath same day is impossible with Shatabdi , except with the help of Sikh driver. But Rishikesh - Badrinath same day might be possible if one starts from Rishikesh @ 5-6 am.

Govind ghat is well developed now, more and more punjabis travelling to Hemkund sahib and more Punjabi hotels coming up with prohibitive rents of above 3000 rs. per day.

regards

Hi,
I am just back from Badrinath. We stayed at Baeribala (charitable trust) guest house. Very clean 4 bed room with a decent toilet (that’s all I need for a night) costs 250/- only. And the view of Nilkantha peak from the GH was just great. I’ll post the pic once I am back to Kolkata. So there are some economical option too at Badrinath.
We came down to Srinagar (for some non veg food) from Badrinath and Hardwar on next day.

i am a Keralite. I found Himachal cheaper than Kerala. The politicians of Kerala believes in beer bars and costly hotels. The KTDC hotels ( the equivalent of HPTDC or GMVN ) charges a few hundred dollars per day for some of their hotels - ex. Thekkady Lake Palace. In Munnar the residents arrange homestays with Rs.2000++ perday. Wrong reading of Tourism.

I find Uttaranchal a devbhoomi due to the spirituality, culture of the Garhvali's + GMVN . every GMVN is like a home for me.
