guys,
actually, i am having a problem with the schedule. i think it might be a bit tight. i will leave chennai on friday evening and take a flight to delhi. from delhi i will take a night train to haridwar/kathgodam. the person at gwaldam told me that it will be quicker to come from from kumaon side. so i might take a taxi at 5 am from kathgodam railway station (even if i have to take a full taxi, so be it)..and by afternoon i will be in the roadhead near wahan. then i plan to start climbing immediately and reach bedni bugyal by nightfall. then i will have sunday, monday, half of tuesday to go to roopkund and come back to the roadhead. then from there, in the afternoon, leave for the plains and try to reach the railway station in kathgodam before nightfall (before the train to delhi leaves, or before the night buses leave). i will have to catch a 7 am flight from delhi on wednesday morning and be in chennai by 9:20 am. pretty tight schedule, but i hope i can make it. |

ROOP KUND-Traveling to
I do not thing that KATHGODAM will be fine..you will be traveling on lesser travel roads and by my experince you have to reach GWALDAM from Bageshar / Garur side. Even if you succeeded in reaching there...further road from GWALDAM to MANDOLI is in bad shape due to rains...and it takes loot of time to reach MANDOLI.
I SUGGEST: You travel from HARIDWAR to KARANPARYAG. Stay here and if you are tough nut...push further upto THRALI. Stay in some guest house there... Next day you can even manage to reach BEDNI if you wish to. Beacuse you can reach WAN without any delay and from there you can proceed for BEDNI BUGYAL. Reaching GWALDAM from kumaon side has been done by me and it was a day of drive and drive and I do not want to do it again or suggest you to do. We started from BAGESHWAR but road was in so bad shape that we reached WAN in evening [ 4.0 PM ] inclusing landslides near MANDOLI. |

Dear Almoraboy,
Your trek schedule is like One Day Cricket. Well, Himadventure is absolutely right. You will be saving lots of your time while going through Haridwar,Karnprayag,Tharali,Mu ndoli. The road is much travelled and availability of conveyance is again fair. BTW what is your scheduled dates. Happy Outdoor |

Hi,
Try going to Tungnath and above it. The distance is short and in case of problem you can return to the road without any problem. Be ready to walk in snow. The view you get is excellant. Do post pics if you go there so that others also gain from your experience. |

i went there and i met a leopard in the jungles. phew, what an experience. since i had only 4 days (chennai to chennai), i went till bedni and came back. u can see the pics of that area over here....
http://almoraboy.blogspot.com/2006/0...himalayas.html BUT, one of the websites on which i was hosting my pics has been sold off. so the first few bedni bugyal reports might not have any pics. will uplaod them again..when i get time. other nearby good places from delhi = chopta/tungnath, chakrata, hkd, etc. u can see all these pics in my blog. cheers. |

BEDNI in Feb. is somewhat offbeat.Good !! someone has break the ice but my guess is that days should be clear and warm but nights will be dead cold.
If shepherds huts are not avaiable-then staying in tents is too tough...a DOWN FEATHER sleeping bag should be there. Landrooma was right- trekking from KUMAON region is very very scenic but as your schedule does not allow this....I think BEDNI is good to have some CHILL !! |

but hey, u don't need a tent for bedni. the village panchayat has built some stone huts next to the bedni kund. our guides slept in those huts. we wanted to get some camping experience so we slept in the tents. and those stone huts were pretty sturdy..at least till mid august. so u can stay in those huts in winters also..and maybe cook ur food there also.
