Query on Chadar Ice Trek

Hi everyone,

I just got some leaves approved for end of December this year, and was wondering would it be possible to do this Chadar Ice Trek during 20th December till 5th January (All the sites say it starts from mid January), I have written to some operators but none of them have replied back yet(it's been a week). We are a group of 4-5 guys who are looking forward to this... but seems like impossible.

As that is the only time we have off and we all really want to do some trekking in ladakh-leh region, so can anyone suggest any other trek which can be done at that time, if not Chadar-Ice Trek??

Any useful info, pointers are welcome...

Chaddar Trek depends upon the snow fall occured in the region...

So before nov end, I don't think anyone is capable enought to answer your query. Even if someone approves there are chances he might backout later mentioning that due to less snowfall trek isn't possible so don't pay any advance before dec 1st week.

Walking on weak ice can be fatal, so be careful...

Come on guys need really need some more inputs... if not chadar trek then anything which is possible in that region during that time??

Hi,
You have choosen wrong time for trekking and that also in Ladakh region. So it is difficult to suggest any route for trek. If it snows you had it. As for chaddar trek is concerned, the temp has to be so less that the Zanskar river gets frozen which happens during Jan - Feb only.

to be very frank no trek would be possible in ladakh region in dec end. the only possibility is chadar trek and it greatly depends on the snowfall... we are a group of 3 people who are leaving for chadar trek by 20 january 2008. if u wish u may join us... jus mail at knowmads@gmail.com and i shall send you the details at once!!! cheers!!!

Chadar ice trek is not a easy one and I am sure we all will be able to enjoy your post.
Walking with crampons and eavy winter clothing on a frozen river is good adventurous attempt.

Zanskar is famous for this type of trekking - but I am of the view that good experience of climbing and high altitude trekking should be with someone who wants to do this.

Anyway...good luck guys...

Chardar Can be done only in Mid of January whne now becomes ICE and you can walk on it. I am going for Chadar in 2009.

8 - Trek to Dib Gongma 3400m
9 - Trek to Hanumil 3500m
10 - Trek to Pidmo
11 - Trek to and rest in Zangla
12 - rest in Zangla
13 - Trek to Stongde/Tongde
14 - Trek to Karsha
15 - rest in Karsha
16 - Trek to Pishu
17 - Trek to Hanumil
18-22 - Trek to Chilling
23 - drive to Leh
24 - spare day
25 - Fly to Delhi
Day 26 – Back to Home
