Which are the places you would like to go trekking?
Have you planned those details yet? What level of difficulty are you aiming at? Will you be travelina alone or in a group? |

Still to decide destinations, probably travelling alone...something safe and not too strenuous

Well for trekking in India don't look for any one. Land up at Delhi and move to Uttrakashi via Haridwar for treks in that region. To get the feel of the trekking environ in the region do the Dodital trek and for this take 1/ 2 porters from Uttarkashi. The normal rates are Rs 200/- or so. This will give you a personal idea of the things and thereafter you may plan further treks.
For Himachal go to Manali or Dharamsala via Chandigarh and plan the treks there. Visit himalayancamping.com for pics of some of the treks in himalaya. |

yes, i agree with vsk sharma. if u go through any trekking agencies, who sit in delhi, they will just charge u a lot of money. and in some cases, might not even arrange for the trek. the forum members will give u good advice. no need to apply for any of the "big guns" as vsk sharma just said. stick to the basics and enjoy ur trek. i have pmed u some of the numbers of the ppl who organise trekking in the munsyari area. u can directly get in touch with them and save on the layers of increased expenses by utilising the serivices of middlemen.

so it seems you've got plenty of info now... ..but here is my advise.. ..take it easy... reach the place (referring to the base for trek eg. Dharamshala for trekking to the Indrahar pass)
and you'll find plenty of agencies offering services of guides for various treks.. ..and it comes out to be much cheaper that if you have the thing arranged from Delhi.. ..and also are arranging things beforehand snatches from you your freedom, a thing that makes a major component of any outing or holiday. Good book shops generally let you meet up with such service provider's.. ..so relax and head to the hills.. have a nice time.. manu raman |

I think the best option will be to explore possibilties of trails which you can do in FEBRUARY. As you can not go high in this month - better discuss your plans here with members- I am sure you will be gatting lot of information of possibilities and you can choose and pick according to your preference.
Just for a suggestion: PINDARI GLACIER region- you can cross snowladen pass of DHAKURI and reach KHATI and from here you can explore valley by visiting nearby villages [ You can not move ahead of KHATI for glacier ] |
