Places to Purchase Trekking Gear in India

can u also give list of essential things to look for in such stores or list of equipment a ideal store should have.

25% off on 40L Rucksack is going on woodland ('ll cost around 2.4K), I just saw it today. The only down side is that the back system is not adjustable.

My 2 cents with Sourav. I both the 70L and 50L Woodland rucksacks at Woodland store in Indiranagar Mkt, Bangalore last week. Though the material and stiching are okay, the bag itself is not very confortable, espcially if you are shorter than 5'8" - the Back strap is not height adjustable resulting in poor lumber support.

Strangely the only relieble Indian gear manufacturer "Wildcraft" have a decent range of Rucksack at a reasonable cost which are both height adjustable and with good lumber support. Wildcraft has many shops in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad.

I was recently in Darjeeling and bought this imported rucksack from a shop behind Mahakali Market, near Bigbazaar. Priced at 3800, I got it for 3200

I also bought a chonese made "The North Face" down sleeping bag for 3800 and GoreTex jacket.

How's the quality of the sleeping bag & the jacket? have you tested them yet? One of my friend got a similar kinda sack from Darjeeling which gave up after 3 odd treks!!
beware of the quality before buying... there are hundreds of fake manufacturers in India, Nepal & Bangladesh which are deceptively close looking!

IM'ers any idea where one can get small camping stove (kerosene/alcohol/gas) stove in Kolkata?

I have visited couple of shops in kolkata in last couple of days.The prices of a sack is almost same but in Ria Mount Support satyajit da have shown me a sack costing 2400.The difference in price with other sacks is 800.But the quality is really good & is very comfortable also.Only thing is in my mind is that the price is reasonable or not.So I need your suggessions....

It works like Metro, but really worth it. I would urge anyone looking for gear to at least check the place out.

They have all the essentials, but not much variety for certain stuff .... so you and all your friends end up with the same walking stick for example.

Decathlon is retailing thru Crossword in Residency road, and Forum Value Mall, Whitefield road in Bangalore. Mostly Quechua products. I personally dont give very high marks to Quechua stuff, mostly China/Bangladesh made.

Well, you'd be hard pressed to find things with stitching involved which doesn't come from China or Bangladesh.

Anyway, for the price the gear's quite all right, esp. if u can get it from the warehouse which works out a lot cheaper.

I am looking to buy a good HOLOFIL jacket from kolkata.....
I have visited ALPINE360 DEGREE, CLIFFLINE,UBAC & RIA MOUNT SUPPORT.

All of them are of same range and so is the quality.So I am a bit confused about choosing the right one to buy...
So I need your suggestion on that....

Could you enlighten us why? Is this a blanket statement or do you have specific examples of Decathlon products being inferior? Just curious. And FYI, even Northface gear is mostly from China.

PS: I have been to the decathlon store and find their gear of high quality. I also know people who use it and have no complaints. When we are hard pressed to find quality gear in India, and have to pay ridiculous prices (because of all the tax we pay to the Gov), I am genuinely curious to know why Decathlon products can be called inferior. IMO they have great pricing and their quality is top notch. I am not arguing in favor of any particular brand or company, I am just looking for substance in statements made in the interwebs.

Champion Sports Pune has started a dedicated trekking equipment shop in Pune.

Address - Good Luck Chowk, next to Deo Sports, FC Road.

Visited all the other trekking equipment shops in Pune mentioned in this thread. Must say that Champion Sports is very reasonable and has a good collection.

Bought a overhead torch and trekking pole in one of the other stores in Pune. After that visited Champion Sports. Same items (exactly same brand) were available in Champion Sports at 50% of the cost. I felt like i was such a fool not to visit Champions earlier.

After this experience, I ( and other 4 people im my group) purchased everything else from Champion Sports. I bought trekking shoes (Brand - HiTec for Rs. 1900), 70L Rucksack (Brand - Great Outdoors Rs. 1700), woolen socks etc.

They also store North Face shoes(full water proof) which costs Rs. 3200. They also have a good collection of HiTec, Action trekking shoes.

Overall a great shop for purchasing trekking equipments in Pune.

how much did they cost?

For the 50 ltr Sack it cost me 2400. & the jacket cost me 1000.
