At least one thing is clear - you will not be able to proceed to zero point .

I could not go to zero point even in Oct.(1985). We could go just 4 kms ahead from Purkhia when we saw avalanche sliding down from the top of the mountain, going down the valley as snow balls. We waited for some time at this point. When this happened for the second time, our Guide called off the trek to zero point.

I have been on this route in winter (nov-dec 2006 & feb-march 2005).
-It will be extremely cold.
-pwd/kmvn rest house will be closed
-it also depends on the amount snow sometimes it starts in December sometimes not.
-When i stayed at dhakuri in nov-dec 2006 at night the temp was around (-)2 and at pindari it was around (-)6-7.
So if you have sleeping bag & tent that can handle this temp. go ahead. In winters the weather is absolutely clear, you won't find any tourist except some foreigners

Thumbs up

Hi Arjun,

I know why u choose winter season for Pindari Trek, this trek is on little bit easier side . I know a trekker who did this trek in winter (Dec. 9th 2004) and successfully. But one thing, he suffered cold with his Double Holo filled Jacket, do u've Father filled one?? Care about that. Happy trekking .

Supratim is finally seeing through me! You are right. When it's an easy trek, I would like to put in a slight spin of adventure to it by trekking in a different landscape and setting. So I was thinking of Pindari in winter. But it looks like I'll be totally snowed down.

Any good treks in winter, that has a bit of snow but easy for beginners? And please, not the Youth Hostel ones.

Hi,
If it has not snowed then going during the winter months also would not be much problem except cold. However, snow would change the scene.
Lalji while you trekked during winter was the place snow downed. If yes can you post some pics of the place.
Things have greatly changed these days.
A good trek is the one to Dodital during winter and also to Tungnath.

@arjunm

You can go for HKD in winters. I did this in Dec 25 2006. HKD look beautiful in all white, but when we trekked from Seema-HKD it snow-falls for 6 hrs continously, visibilty was very low . Our guide tries to called off but we keep insisting ..finally we made .
The temperature was extremely chilled, we put bucket full of water within hour it was solid rock ice. It was 3 foot of snow at HKD.

one trek that even i will like to do.....coz i haven't gone ehre yet...and in winters it sounds even more interesting..

btw, my cousin tried it once....but it snowed a lot at dhakuri. he could have made it, if he did not have to return back to office . so he came back from dhakuri, coz walking in snow takes much much more time...

btw, how are the views on this place, compared to the ones from khalia top?
or how about bedni bugyals in winters?? (with tents). do u folks think that could be done...???

I think Bedni and Ali are quite possible for a winter exploration, especially if you climb up from the Ali side.

In Winter it sometimes snows in Wan (but doesn't last), but that's about 2 feet of snow (in the open areas). Under the Oaks I think it would be a reasonable attempt to climb up to Bedni. I have seen couple of snowed out pics of Bedni, and the place is, mildly put, paradise. What say?

Arjun

Anyone know any 5-6 days easy hike in the hills in winter. Snow, but not unbearable types is ok.
