Hi, everybody! We are going to trek to Pindari Glacier during the last week of October, so I really need your help) I have already bought train tickets to Kathgodam for 6 am (our plane will arrive late to delhi so we won't be able to catch the overnight train). What should we do after coming to kathgodam? How can we reach Kharkiya? I am going to start our trek from Kharkiya to Khati because we have little time for our trip to India. Hiw many days will the trek take? I should buy the train ticket back to delhi and not sure about the date. Thank you so much

Kharkia to Khati by trek
Day 3 Khati to Dwali by trek
Day 4 Dwali to Phurkia by trek
Day 5 Phurkia to Pindari zero point and back to Khati
Day 6 Khati to Kharkia
Kharkia to Kathgodam by reserved car
Day 7 morning train to Delhi.

Could anyone give me GPS coordinates of THE Kharkiya from which we should trek to Khati. The problem is that the only Kharkiya I found on Google map is situated not far from Almora but far away from Khati therefore I am a bit confused

It is just 5 kms from Loharkhet, so there will not be much difference in coordinates. Loharkhet is well marked on Google earth.

As to car reservation, no need for that, you can hire it at spot, just do it in the evening at place you are staying for night so that you wont have to worry in the morning.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

Thanks a lot! So should we go to Kausani or Bageshawar from Kathgodam? Or is it better to go off the train in Haldwani? I read that there are more cabs in Haldwani. Will we be able to go from Phurkiya to Khati in one day on our way back? Thanks)

it would be better to get down at Haldwani since most cabs start from there.

Yes, Haldwani has more option of cabs so you can get down at Haldwani to be on safer side. You can easily reach Bageshwar so better to go directly to Bageshwar.

Phurkiya to Khati is doable in one day.

Nina, Bageshwar is closer than Kausani to the start of the trek. Bageshwar is where you'll get the share jeeps to either Song or Kharkiya where you can begin the trek. Day six will be a long day and I am not sure about places to stay in Kharkiya, perhaps someone else can comment?

Hey, guys! I'm still planning my trip, therefore I've got a request: could anyone give me detailed instructions of the Day Khati-Dwali? As far as I understood the trail was badly damaged after landslide in 2013 and the new trail was made. Is it easy to follow? And one more question. I wanted to book accommodation at KMVN online but Pindari resthouses are not on the list. And KMVN ignore my emails( Has anyone done this trek recently? Are KMVN resthouses open? Thank you)

Me and a friend took a shared heep from Haridwar to bageshwar and then another jeep to Loharkhet.
Pindari is a really beautiful trek and easy to do it without a guide.
And Khati is such a beautiful village....
Don't forget to stop at Baba's place, near the Pindari glacier.

Have a great trip!

Yes. As to KMVN, usually you get accommodation on your arrival. But if in a big group, then there may be a problem.

And don't e-mail, it will be worthless effort, make a call directly to KMVN Bageshwar (08650002546) or their head office at Nainital on (05942) 236209, 235700, they will do the needful.

Thanks) We are just 2 people, so I hope we will find a room on site. I was just afraid that they closed their huts on Pindari trek.

Even so, do try calling Bageshwar KMVN, you will get first hand information on the accommodation and trek route situation before your trip, and that is always helpful.
